The "Miao" in Chinese is closer to the general name claimed by all Miao people, and many people are classified as "Miao" because of regional ethnic autonomy. Although Miao people live in mountainous areas, the presentation of culture and society in different regions is different. Miao people in mountain basins and valley plains make a living by planting rice, while Miao people in plateau and mountain areas make a living by slash-and-burn or planned farming. Miao people are highly separated from other ethnic groups, but most of them live together with their own ethnic groups, and their real life is very complicated. In the past, many Miao people used slash-and-burn sanitation, which was extremely mobile.
/kloc-After the 5th century, a large number of Miao people migrated along the mountain, so that many ethnic groups with the same culture and language as the Miao people appeared in Laos, Thailand, Vietnam and other countries. In this way, relying on back and forth migration, Miao people are distributed in vast areas. Now, for China, the Miao nationality is a "cross-border nationality" born across the border, and because of its great mobility, it has caused many international problems. Especially after 1975, Miao people living in the mountainous areas of Laos fled to Thailand and became refugees.
The Miao nationality in the Ming and Qing Dynasties was very extensive, from Hunan to Yunnan, which seemed to be much larger than the Maoren. Today's Miao people may be just a branch of Ming and Qing Dynasties. It is possible, because it is difficult to sort out the ethnic origins in different periods.
