The Flower Basket Lantern Dance was created and spread in the Cao Lu area of Pudong New District, Shanghai, and has a history of more than 40 years. The Flower Basket Lantern Dance originated from the Taoist sacrificial rituals and belongs to the "Wearing of Lanterns" section of the Taoist ritual "Jiuyue Lanterns". Since the 1930s, it has been enriched and modified by various Taoist artists until the middle of the 1950s, when it was developed into the "Dance of Wearing Lights" and became a self-contained dance. 1956, Taoist artists such as Xue Zhaonan of Gonglu and Feng Bingkui of Gulu were inspired by the Party's "Two Hundred" policy and adapted the "Dance of Wearing Lights" into the "Dance of Wearing Lights". "adapted the Taoist" wearing lights dance ", easy to male dance for female dance, replacing some of the team line and props, became eight girls each hand holding a chemical lamp, one hand holding a handkerchief, to the opera Dan step as the basic footwork, around the ground to indicate that the four lanterns of the southeast, west, north and west, interspersed with a variety of shapes. The dance was rehearsed and performed by Gu Lu to Gu Dong Amateur Theater Troupe, and participated in the Rural Amateur Literary and Artistic Performance of Jiangsu Province (Chuansha County was originally under the jurisdiction of Jiangsu Province) in December 1956; in March of the following year, it also went to Beijing with the Jiangsu delegation to participate in the Second National Folk Music and Dance Performance, and was awarded with the Excellent Prize of Creation and Performance. All the performers were received by Zhou Enlai, Zhu De, Dong Biwu, Peng Liwu, Zhou Yang, Liu Zhiming and other central government officials in Huairen Hall, and were photographed together.
After returning from the Beijing performance, Taoist artists Xue Zhaonan and Feng Bingkui made a big modification to the "Dance of Wearing Lights" by removing the four bottle-type "peony lanterns" originally placed at the four corners of the stage, discarding the handkerchiefs and changing the "hexagonal lamps" into "flower lamps" in the hands of the performers. The handkerchiefs were discarded, and the "hexagonal lamps" in the hands were changed to "flower baskets". This change eventually broke through the original "through the lamp" framework, so that the new folk dance stands out, and named "Lantern Dance". 1959, Chuansha County under the jurisdiction of the Shanghai Municipal Government, the New Year's Day, "Lantern Dance" in the Shanghai Municipal Public Creation in 1958, and won the first prize for folk dance. After several performances, continuous improvement, "Lantern Dance" is getting better and better, with the name "Basket Light Dance", in the basket of flowers into the electric light gun can shine, highlighting the effect of the main props in the stage performances, fully embodies the role of "lights". In December of the same year, the Shanghai Literature and Art Publishing House and Xue Zhaonan choreography, Mou Denggang adapted the "Basket Light Dance" book, the music, movement, modeling, composition, etc. to be fixed to make it widely circulated.
