[edit] Lyrics
Before Sam Hui, Hong Kong people generally regarded Cantonese songs as vulgar works and a second-class alternative to English and Mandarin songs. Until 1971, Sam Hui, who graduated from the University of Hong Kong, did not shy away from vulgarity, and wrote a number of songs reflecting the current situation of the society in Cantonese, which described the helplessness of wage earners and talked about the mood of sparrow-playing; some of them were love songs, but more satirical and inspirational works, and were well received by music fans after their release. Some were love songs, but more were satirical and inspirational. The works were well received by music fans after their release, and since then Cantonese works have been springing up in the Hong Kong music scene.
[edit]Influence on the music scene
In the mid-1980s, Hong Kong's "iconoclastic" singers were on the rise, and although he made new attempts to improve his image and add rock elements to his songs, he did not win the favor of a new generation of fans, and faded away from the scene. 1992 was the year he announced his retirement, and the record company to which he belonged released an album by Xu Guanjie, which is now available on his label. In 1992, when he officially announced his retirement, his record company launched the Koh Koon-kit album, which was a remake of Koh's songs sung by singers who had been ordered to do so at the time, and the result was a big hit, and the albums were released one after another, leading to the first Koh Koon-kit nostalgia fever. More than a decade later, Hong Kong experienced SARS and the death of many important Hong Kong singers, Xu Guanjie held a comeback concert, 100,000 tickets were snapped up overnight, once again involving Xu Guanjie fever; Xu Guanjie in the lyrics of the refraction of the philosophy of the cultural sector in the widely discussed.
Jackie Hui has a very high status in Hong Kong's pop music industry, and has gained the respect and recognition of many superstars, including Alan Tam, Leslie Cheung, Anita Mui and Jacky Cheung.
