History

Xiangcheng was Xiangziguo in the early Zhou Dynasty. It was one of the local administrative units or administrative divisions of the Western Zhou Dynasty, which was divided into feudal states and ruled under the King of Zhou (or the Son of Zhou). By the Spring and Autumn period of the Eastern Zhou Dynasty, it was still an Xiangzi state.

After Qin Shi Huang merged the six kingdoms and unified China, he abolished the feudal system and implemented the county system, changing the land of Chen into Yingchuan County, with Chen as the county. Xiangdi came under the Yingchuan County, and only the name of Xiangdi was used, but not the name of Xiang County or Xiangxian.

After the unification of China by the Sui Dynasty, it was identified as Xiang County.

In the Republic of China, Xiangcheng County was under the Commissioner's Office of Huaiyang Seventh District Administrative Inspectorate of Henan Province. Anti-Japanese War, Huaiyang fell, in 1945, the seventh district administrative inspectors office moved to Xiangcheng County County.

After the establishment of the People's Republic of China, at the end of 1953, the county seat of Xiangcheng County was moved from the old county seat to Shuizhai Town.

1965 to 2000 Xiangcheng County (city) under the Henan Province, Zhoukou District Administrative Office. 2000 June, Zhoukou withdraws the land to set up a city, Xiangcheng under the Zhoukou City.

On December 16, 1993, Xiangcheng City was set up in Xiangcheng County with the approval of the State Council.
