Beyond the human race, there is a There is a dark and unknown underworld, where two rival races are active: the mysterious and elusive vampires with an aristocratic temperament, and the ferocious and savage werewolves, who have been fighting for centuries for the right to rule the underworld. To humans, they are nothing more than ghosts and monsters, but in reality, their fierce confrontation has never stopped, and they have fought throughout their lives, vowing that one of them will never stop until the other falls.
Over the centuries, the vampire tribes have gained the privilege of the underground world, they are more powerful and formal, living in a heavily guarded but somewhat dilapidated apartment building, but the existence of the werewolf tribe is still a threat to their noble status, they secretly set up an elite vampire fighters composed of the "death walkers", began to start the "death walkers", the "death walker". "
Werewolves are the most common type of vampire in the world, but they are still a threat to their honor.
The werewolf horde is a group of roaming the streets and alleys of the villains, their habitat is left after World War II, an underground warehouse, although they are fierce and tough, but the lack of organization and scale, making the battle with the vampire is at a disadvantage. The vampire and werewolf tribes, each with their own arsenal, producing large quantities of murderous weapons, they are always looking for opportunities to kill each other in the darkness of the night, watching the two forces of darkness tense up, and the war is about to begin
One thunderstorm late at night in the fall, the vampire warrior woman, "Goddess of the Moon," Serena (Kate Berry), a woman of the moon and a woman of the moon and a woman of the moon, a woman of the moon. During the hunt, Serena discovers that the Lycans are preparing to kidnap the human doctor Michael (Scott Speedman), who she senses has been kidnapped by the Lycans. Serena realizes that the Lycans are plotting a huge conspiracy and decides to investigate on her own, but she is seriously injured by the Lycans and is fortunately rescued by Michael.
Serena took Michael into the vampire territory, but the other vampires realized that Michael had been bitten by the werewolves, and Michael escaped from the vampire's house and was captured by the werewolves. From the werewolf leader Lucien, he learns that Michael is the descendant of Corvinus, the only uncontaminated pureblood human. His blood can make the genes of both werewolves and vampires merge, and with this mixed blood, he has a strong power. When the werewolf leader knew this secret, he chased after him madly, wanting to inject his blood and the blood of the vampire elders into his own body to gain great power. Serena sympathizes with Michael and wants to help the handsome rescuer, and a magical love sprouts between them.
But the two feuding families behind them have not been able to erase centuries of enmity because of the love of two young people. The vampire action to destroy the werewolf has been prepared to complete, werewolves are also well prepared for their own revenge action, so, in a darker night, the wind and rain more violent night, vampires and werewolves of the great battle began
Behind the scenes
Old trees and new branches
From the birth of the movie, vampires and werewolves are Hollywood movies are the enduring popular themes, and the "werewolves" is the most important thing to do. The movie "Legend of the Night" is a deeper dive into the century-long war between vampires and werewolves for domination of the city's hidden world. Danny McBride, the film's screenwriter, said, "The story of 'Legend of the Night' is not from a novel or a comic book, but is the product of a group of enthusiasts talking about how we wanted to create a world where vampires and werewolves ****ed up based on science."
The film's co-writer, Kevin Guilloux, suggested a Romeo and Juliet-type story, and it's about vampires and werewolves. Guilloux, who majored in genetic engineering when he was in college, added an element of credibility to the old legend, saying, "We were going to drop the mysticism and go with the science, so I created a virus that is the cause of vampires and werewolves."
Director Len Wiseman says the creators deliberately avoided some of the conventions of vampirism, such as garlic and crucifixes. He said, "If you follow the genetic logic, you can explain everything about it. If it's a genetic mutation or a change in blood type over the years that creates a vampire, then you can find a way to kill vampires and find out why silver affects that blood type. Arguably our vampires and werewolves are more justified."
Lakeshore Films was so impressed with the idea that it immediately began work on the film. Producer Gary Lucchesi said, "Normally it takes two or three years to make a movie, but 'Legends of the Night' only took two or three months." In order to direct the movie, Len Wiseman impressed the producers with his eloquence. Lucchesi recalls: "Len was very persuasive, he was an artisan by trade, had studied under Roland Emmerich, and had worked at Industrial Light and Magic. He was enamored with the atmosphere of the film, 'Legends of the Night,' and felt that the movie exemplified everything he wanted to show on the big screen."
While the film marks Wiseman's directorial debut, Lakeshore Films has always had a preference for new talent, and all the technical support was in place in no time. Producer Tom Rosenberg said, "We're most proud of the fact that a lot of new people are getting their directorial debuts here. We've had great success with Mark Pellington, and The Omen of the Mothman is the third movie we've made together. We also recently shot Paul McGuigan's 'The Bewitched Apartment,' so Len was ideal for the job."
About the Cast
Kate Beckinsale, who plays Serena in the film, had never acted in a movie of this type before, and, as producer Richard Wright puts it, "Before 'Legends of the Night,' people would never have expected Kate to be fully armed and wearing vampire teeth." When told the movie was about vampires and werewolves, Beckinsale didn't even bother, telling the producers she wasn't interested, but her agent gave her the script and Wiseman's illustrations anyway.
Beckinsale recalls: "Len did a wonderful job drawing Serena and the Wolfman, and they were both cool and interesting, not the outdated gothic look of the past. I read the script and realized that Serena was a fully fleshed-out character, very different from the comic book." Beckinsale's addition to the cast paved the way for the producers to recruit other actors, says producer Wright: "Kate became our gold standard and undeniably raised the bar. The reason we've been able to bring in so many talented actors, I think, is because of Kate's appeal." According to Wright, it wasn't an easy movie for Beckinsale, who had to get soaked to the skin, stand in freezing winds, and stand on the roof of an eight-story building for the sake of the plot, but Beckinsale had nothing but good things to say about the experience: "I think it's been my favorite experience so far, and I didn't feel safe at all on the set, so it was a lot of fun for me. So I think it was a lot of fun."
Searching for someone to play Michael Corvinus was equally crucial. Wiseman had seen Scott Speedman in the hit teen drama "Felicity," and although Speedman hadn't yet gotten his head around the idea, he convinced Wiseman with his approach to the material. "Scott took everything in the movie seriously and wanted to be as authentic as possible," Wiseman said.
For Speedman, "Legends of the Night" was a new and unprecedented experience, he said: "It's exciting to work with first-time directors who don't play by the rules and are stubborn. Len is very excited and enthusiastic about what he's doing, and he's always happy, no matter what the difficulties and pressures." Because Michael transforms from a human to a werewolf, Speedman endures up to five hours of make-up every day and an hour and a half of make-up removal after work each night.
Also suffering from makeup pain is the role of vampire Victor of the British veteran actor Bill Nye, as the vampire king, Victor in Nye's interpretation reveals a strong desire to control, which is exactly what the role needs. I didn't know anything about Bill Nye at the time," recalls Weissman, "and he sat down and read the lines, and in a trance, I forgot what I was doing, and it was the only time I ever forgot myself. He became our Victor, and it was incredible."
About the shoot
Beckinsale and Speedman both underwent weeks of intense training before rehearsals to pull off the film's action sequences. Beckinsale said: "I'm not familiar with sports, but I have a dance background, but the action scenes are not dancing, and I had to remember never to stand on tiptoe when I landed after a jump." Beckinsale also had to learn to adapt to the complexity of the hanging line stunts, there was a section of the film, Serena jumped up, in the flip at the same time shooting a werewolf shot, Beckinsale in the film before the start of the filming of the fear of this, but wait until the actual filming of the film, she not only only only four times to complete, and even some of them have not yet finished.
Stunt coordinator Brad Martin said: "We worked hard to gain Kate's trust and make her realize that everything was going to be fine. Once she builds up her confidence, she'll be fully convinced that she's up to the task." Commenting on Speedman's performance, Martin said, "He had never been in a sports movie or an action movie before this, but he mastered all the moves so quickly that when training was over he was doing backflips without the help of a wire."
Tony Pierce Roberts, the film's cinematographer, was nominated for Oscars for "A Room with a View" and "Howards End," but it wasn't Pierce Roberts' work on these classic films that really surprised director Wiseman, but 1999's "The Final Battle. He says, "The images in 'The Final Battle' are very dark and complementary to the plot of the movie. I wanted to create a gritty, gothic comic-book world, and Tony was able to fully appreciate and understand what I was trying to do." Producer Wright said, "It was crucial to have Tony at the helm of the film, because with him, people will no longer see 'Legends of the Night' as just another vampire movie, but will believe that it's extraordinary and promises to transcend the confines of the genre."
To bring the film's unique world to life, the creators decided to shoot in Eastern Europe, and the Hungarian capital of Budapest was the ideal choice. Wiseman says, "There were buildings there that we were looking for, and with the budget that we had, we couldn't have created this real interior. I had the whole movie in my head, and I tried to explain my vision to everyone, and when we arrived in Budapest, they said, 'Now I know what kind of movie you want to make.'" With Budapest's long and storied history, its ancient flavor, and Transylvania, the birthplace of vampires and werewolves, once part of Hungary, the mystical connection between Budapest and the film was irresistible to the creators.
From the beginning, the creators wanted the vampires and werewolves in the film to be different from the digitally created creatures in previous movies. We showed footage from 'Alien' and 'Alien 2' at Lakeshore Films, and we suggested that we didn't want to use the CGI technology that's so common in most films," said screenwriter Michael McBride. We felt that CGI had its merits, but that it was a bit too much for hairy creatures. Legend of the Dark's audience grew up watching monster movies, and we knew we had to have something tangible that would feel tangible. So we put the actors in incredible costumes, electronic bionic masks, and in general the best of old and new technology."
Behind-the-Scenes
-Director Len Wiseman is not a fan of computerized effects for action scenes. For example, when filming Lucien chasing a car at more than 50 miles per hour, Wiseman opted to use a car drag, with close-ups of the running and jumping onto the car done by Mike Sheen, and distant shots by stuntman Todd Schneider.
-A week before the film's release, White Wolf Games and author Nancy A. Collins accused the film of copyright infringement because of more than 70 similarities between "Legends of the Night" and the company's game, and because of an apparent plot that was based on Collins's 1994 short story "The Love of Monsters," which the two sides eventually settled out of court. The two sides eventually settled out of court.
-Serena encounters a werewolf in a train tunnel at the beginning of the movie, with a howl from 1981's An American Werewolf in London.
-The ScreenGems president decided to make a sequel and prequel to the film before it had even begun to open in the U.S., and it was the Canadian box office that bolstered his confidence.
-The dogs outside the vampire's house are actually gentle, cuddly breeds, and during the filming of the movie, they were all the crew could get, so director Wiseman decided to dub them with vicious barks. In the scene where the dogs are chasing Michael, if you look closely, you'll see that the dogs' tails are wagging happily.
-Wentworth Miller and Mike Sheen had both hoped to play Michael.
-Wentworth Miller's scenes were shot in just two days.
-Kate Beckinsale later tied the knot with the film's director, Len Wiseman.
-Scott Speedman had suffered a concussion while filming an action scene.
Guilty Shots
-Near the end, Serena shoots a gun to break the chain of the handcuffs Michael is wearing, but in a subsequent shot of Michael breaking free of the ties, the handcuffs are missing from his wrists.
At one-third of the way through the movie, the liquid in the bullet when Serena tries it out is not silver nitrate, and neither liquid silver nitrate, nor silver nitrate solution is silver
