What is happiness?
There are three children, all shepherds. They are very close to each other and often drive the sheep far away and eat grass in the Woods. There is an old fountain in the Woods, which has stopped spraying water and its mouth is full of dead branches and leaves. Once, a shepherd boy said, "Come on, let's dig this fountain deep and clean it up, shall we?"
"good!" His companion shouted happily.
The next day, they went to dig a fountain in the Woods with hoes and shovels. They dredged the spring and dug a small ditch to let all the water flow into it. They also dug up branches, branches and rotten leaves blocked in spring. Clear water flowed out from under a layer of foam, washed the foam to both sides and flowed into a small pool at the bottom of the sand. The three children were both happy and excited when they saw spring. The next day, they removed some slates and made a small well. In front of the well platform, they left a wide exit covered with a big slate to prevent dust from falling in.
They sat happily on the big rocks by the well, watching the clear spring water slowly fill the small well and finally flow out from the wide exit.
At this time, a beautiful girl came out of the Woods, with golden hair hanging to her heels and a white wreath on her head. "Hello, children!" She said, "May I drink the water from your well?"
"You drink!" The children said, "We dug this well for people to drink."
The girl bent down and stood by the wellhead, holding a handful of water in her hand and drinking three mouthfuls.
"I took three sips for the health of the three of you," she said with a smile.
After a pause, she added, "You did a good deed, and I thank you. On behalf of the forest, on behalf of all the animals living in the forest and all the flowers and plants growing in the forest, thank you. May you live happily all your lives! Goodbye!
The children looked at each other. They are both happy and excited.
A child asked the girl he didn't know, "You want us to be happy. Please tell us, what is happiness? "
"You should find out for yourself. Ten years later, we will meet again in this place, next to this small well. If you don't know what happiness is by then, I'll tell you. " Say that finish, the girl suddenly disappeared, just like she suddenly came.
The children all looked at each other in surprise. A child said, "Let's go where we want to go separately and find out what happiness is." . I'm going to the east. "
"I'm going west." Another child said.
"I will stay in the village," said the third child. "Maybe in the village, I can find out what happiness is."
They all mean what they say. Ten years later, they met again by the well. All three became strong young people. The cool spring water is still flowing quietly. The saplings by the well have grown into trees with dense branches and leaves. There are many paths around the small well, and people's footprints can be clearly seen. They must have come here to drink water or fetch water. There are paw prints of birds on the surrounding sand, and there are traces of deer and rabbits running on the grass. The three young people looked at all this happily, and every time they thought that they had only done such a small thing, they brought such great benefits to others! They sat on the original big stone and thought of the magical girl. But she hasn't come yet.
"Do you know what I have done in these ten years?" The first young man said, "After we broke up, I went to a city, where I went to school and learned a lot. Now I am a doctor. "
"Have you figured out what happiness is?" The other two asked him.
"I see, this is very simple. I treat patients. How happy they are to be healthy again. I can help others and feel happy. "
I, "said the second young man," have been to many places and done many things. I have worked on trains and ships, as a fireman, gardener and many other things. I work hard, which is useful to others. My labor was not in vain, so I feel happy. "
"What about you?" They all asked the young people who stayed in the village.
"I cultivated land. Wheat grows on the ground. Wheat feeds many people. You see, my labor was not in vain. I also feel happy. "
Suddenly, the girl appeared. She hasn't changed. She still has blonde hair and a white wreath on her head. She looks so modest, beautiful and kind.
"I'm glad you all followed my advice and came to see me again." She said, "I heard everything you said. All three of you understand that happiness depends on labor, on doing your duty and doing things that are beneficial to people. "
"Who are you?" Three young people asked in unison.
"I am the daughter of wisdom." The girl said that and disappeared.
