Synopsis:
In December 1937, the city of Nanjing broke down. Although a large number of soldiers of the National Revolutionary Army fled the city, at the same time, there are still a large number of soldiers who are not willing to surrender and stayed behind, and launched a hopeless and tragic resistance in the streets and alleys of the city. Among them is Lu Jianxiong (Liu Ye), a member of the National Army's elite unit. After the resistance fails, the city of Nanjing is reduced to a dead zone after the blood of hundreds of thousands of Chinese finally stains the Yangtze River. The only survivor is the "safe zone" at the Jinling Women's College. Here, a large number of refugees were given a temporary respite because of Rabe's "Nazi" status. The actual presidency of the refugees in the safe zone is Rabe's secretary, Mr. Tang (Fan Wei), and the returned female teacher, Jiang Shuyun (Gao Yuanyuan). However, in the eyes of the Japanese army, the so-called "safe zone" is nothing more than a "warehouse" where a large number of female resources are hoarded. In the eyes of the Japanese army, the so-called "safe zone" was nothing more than a "warehouse" where a lot of women were stocked up, and Rabe's German identity was nothing more than a piece of cloth that could be pulled away at any time in front of the strong Japanese army. The Chinese women, on the other hand, use their bodies not only to save the men hidden in the refugee camps. Kadokawa (Hero Nakasumi) is an ordinary soldier of the Japanese 16th Division. Known by his teammates as "the man who reads books," he is sensitive and uninitiated. On the other hand, his fellow captain, Ita (Ryu Kihatan), is already a veteran soldier. In his "life" as an occupier of Nanking, he has experienced the human cost of maintaining this "life". Kadokawa finally made his choice: he sent the two Chinese survivors out of Nanking, and then shot himself.
