Mao Festival is also called "Song Festival". Water folk festival. Popular in some villages in Sandu County and Libo County, Guizhou Province. It is held every year in the ninth or tenth month of the Chinese calendar (the fifth or sixth month of the family calendar). On that day, young men and women held umbrellas and held flower handkerchiefs to Maopo to sing, dance and play. In the evening, people gather in the village square to play bronze drums, leather drums, suona, and perform traditional lantern dramas. Guests are also invited to have a banquet. Mao Festival is called "Ji Mao" in Shui language, which means eating Mao. The date of the Mao Festival is calculated based on the Shui people's calendar. It is popular in some areas where the Shui people live where the festival is not celebrated. The festival lasts four days. According to ancient customs, the festival begins with the Mao day in the ninth and tenth months of the lunar calendar (the fifth and sixth months of the lunar calendar). According to different regions, the festival is divided into four batches and takes turns to celebrate the Mao day.
