Behind the Scenes of Roman Holiday

1. At the very beginning of the movie, the elderly gentleman dancing with Princess Anna says to her in Hindi, "I'd love to die on this boat."

2. Joe (Gregory Peck) pretends that his hand has been bitten off by the mouth of a stone statue, and there's a scene where Peck improvises. When he takes his hand out of the stone, he hides it in his sleeve, a gag he picked up from Redd Scotone. This little tidbit caught Hepburn by surprise, so the scene passed after only one take.

3. After the movie wrapped, Peck told the producers that Hepburn was sure to win an Oscar (even though it was her first lead role), and that it would be best for them to put her name at the front of the cast credits list. They did so, and Hepburn did win.

-4, Hepburn won the role of Anna thanks to a legendary audition. She acted out a scene from the movie, and after the director said "stop," the cameraman kept the camera rolling. After a few minutes of previews, Hepburn immediately captured the movie.

5. When he was given the script, Gregory Peck was desperate to be in a comedy (he had never been in a movie drama) and was eager to take advantage of this rare opportunity. He later said that at the time, he felt as if every romantic comedy script he read had the "mark of Cary Grant" on it.

6. Joe paid the cab driver 1,000 lire (plus a 1,000 lire tip to convince him to take Anna and himself). That's about 17 dollars (in 2005).

7. The motorcycle that Pike and Hepburn rode in the movie was named VESPA, which translates to Weiss (also known as Wasp). After the movie was released, the motorcycle was madly snapped up, soaring from dozens of units per day to 500 per day.

8. The popularity of Roman Holiday was closely related to the hot news of the time. Princess Margaret of England fell in love with Peter Townsend, a divorced commoner, and was determined to marry him. But she eventually broke off her relationship with Townsend after strong-arming from members of the royal family.

9. After the film was made and before it was released, Pike noticed that his name was typed on the poster, while Hepburn's name was small and tucked away in a corner. He specially notified the producer of the original cast list on the "Gregory Peck starring Roman Holiday" changed to Audrey Hepburn's name. March 25, 1954, 24-year-old Hepburn because of the "Roman Holiday" in the wonderful performance, won the 26th Academy Award for Best Actress. That night, Hepburn, who never thought she would get the golden statue, stood on the podium so excited that she couldn't speak, but she didn't forget to tell the world: "This is a gift from Parker!"

10.When Gregory Peck traveled to Italy to shoot this movie, he was going through a recent separation and the personal matter of an impending divorce from his current (and first) wife. It was during filming that he fell in love with a French woman named Veronique Passani. After the divorce, he married Pasani, and they lived together until Pike left this world.

11. The screenwriter of this film was blacklisted at the time, so he was replaced by someone else to receive the award, which was awarded posthumously by the Oscars in 1993. remade as a TV movie in 1987. 1, Returning to the palace after saying goodbye to Bradley, Anna's hair is different between shots in the first scene. In particular, her bangs change between medium shots and close-ups.

2. When Joe Bradley follows Anna through the streets, people are watching the movie being filmed instead of being as comfortable as they usually are.

3, When Joe and Anna meet in the square, the big clock shows the time as 11 o'clock, and then a few minutes later it can be seen to show the time as shortly after 10 o'clock. And all of this goes against the fact that the previous slept until almost 12 o'clock.

4. After Joe throws a bottle of wine at Owen, there is clearly a large wet mark on the top of Owen's shirt. However when they came out of the bar a few minutes later, the wet mark was gone.

5. Anna leaves Joe's apartment for the first time, and when Joe says goodbye to Anna, his hand is on the doorknob of the door. In the next shot, his hand is at his side, and then he puts his hand on top of the doorknob once again.

6. When Anna, Joe and Owen are in town, she is wearing a V-neck top with a small circle scarf. When she left on her return to the embassy, she was wearing a turtleneck top with a fixed white bow tie.
