What musical instrument is Bangzi?

Bangzi is not a musical instrument. Bangzi Opera, also known as Shaanxi Opera, is one of the four traditional operas of the Han nationality. The musical instrument used is jujube bangzi, named after it is hardwood bangzi. Originated in the Western Zhou Dynasty, originated in Xifu and matured in Qin Dynasty. It is the oldest and richest acoustic cavity system among the four major acoustic cavities.

Bangzi, also called Bangzi, is a percussion instrument in China. In the late Ming and early Qing Dynasties in China (17th century), Bangzi Opera became popular with its rise. Bangzi consists of two solid hard sticks with different lengths and thicknesses. One is cylindrical with a length of 25 cm and a diameter of 4 cm, and the other is rectangular with a length of 20, a width of 5-6 and a thickness of 4 cm.

Shaanxi dialect is based on the pronunciation of Guanzhong dialect, especially in the counties of Jinghe and Weihe River basins. Since the Zhou Dynasty, Guanzhong area has been called Qin, hence the name Qin Opera, which is one of the quite ancient operas. The performance of Shaanxi Opera is simple, bold, exaggerated and full of life. Popular in Shaanxi, Gansu, Qinghai and other places in northwest China. Among them, the Xifu Qin Opera in Baoji is the oldest and retains many ancient sounds.

Xianyang Qin Opera is divided into two parts: disc and color, and each part is composed of two kinds of vocal systems: bitter tone and happy tone (also known as Huayin). There are thirteen types and twenty-eight types of roles in Shaanxi Opera. The facial makeup of Shaanxi Opera pays attention to solemnity, generosity, cleanliness, vividness and beauty, with three primary colors as the main color, middle color as the auxiliary color, flat painting as the main color and contrast color as the auxiliary color, so transition colors are rarely used.
