From September 6 to September 33, 1938, the Kuomintang troops launched the fifth "encirclement and suppression" campaign against the revolutionary base areas. The fifth counter-campaign against "encirclement and suppression" in the central base area failed because the Chairman of the Central Committee, Bo Gu Kailai, and the military adviser, Li De, rejected Mao Zedong's correct opinions and propositions and implemented the wrong strategy.
1934 10 the red army, the main force of the central red army, had to leave the central revolutionary base and start a strategic shift, that is, the long March. Duyu River is the first big river that the Central Red Army must cross in the Long March. At that time, the river was more than 600 meters wide and the current was deep and swift. Except for a few ferries that can wade across the river by inserting river cards, most of them only need to set up pontoons to cross the river.
In order to ensure the Red Army to cross the river smoothly, under the leadership of the Gannan Provincial Party Committee and the provincial Soviet government, the people of Du Yu made selfless dedication and gave the Red Army strong support. At that time, all the civilian ships along the Yangtze River were shut down, and more than 800 large and small ships were assembled, some of which set up pontoons and some ferries. In order to avoid the bombing of Kuomintang planes and hide the strategic intention of the Red Army, a pontoon bridge was erected at night.
In the evening, organized people flocked to the bridge site, some lit torches, some brought tea and rice, and some brought wood for door panels. In just four days, five pontoons and many ferries and river-related points were built on the 30-kilometer river course in Yudu County.
