Character experience
Bao Meisheng, born in Taiwan in 1958, is one of the most representative folk singers in the 1970s. Graduated from the History Department of National Taiwan University.
He was the winning singer of the first Golden Rhythm Award. Bao Meisheng's voice is clear and childlike, and is highly recognizable among many folk singers. Because of the uniqueness of his voice, he was extremely popular with listeners when folk songs were at their peak. In one month, four albums were published, including "Songs of Bao Meisheng - You Waiting for Me Deep in the Sunset", "Monologue under the Sky", "That Pot of Fire" and "Woodcutter's Song". Bao Meisheng is the folk singer with the most recognizable voice. Her singing voice is very unique and cannot be imitated by others. It has nothing to do with the classic academic singing method.
In 1980, he left Taiwan to study in the United States. Since going abroad for further studies, he has never appeared or sang in public as a singer in the past 25 years.
Growing up in Taichung, Bao Meisheng was the youngest girl in the family. Her two sisters and one brother loved her very much. His father worked in an airline company and has retired; his mother is an elementary school teacher. When she was studying, she would run home whenever she had a vacation, no matter how short it was. But now that I'm at work, it's not so easy to go back. After graduating from high school and taking the joint entrance examination, she had a long vacation. Bao Meisheng liked to eat mung bean soup. I was afraid of burning it dry and didn't want to stare at the stove, so I picked up my brother's guitar and fumbled around casually. With the guidance of my brother's classmates, I spent the summer vacation happily. At that time, I didn’t have many choices when it came to singing, and I mainly focused on American folk songs that I could find in songbooks. Speaking of singing, according to my mother, I have loved singing since I was a child. My brothers, sisters and mother also like singing. When she was in the first grade of elementary school, she was lying in bed listening to her mother teach her to sing "Green Island Serenade". This scene is still unforgettable. When I first learned how to play the guitar, I played the guitar on the stairs in the kitchen and sang "Plum Blossom" with my mother. It was really a family affair. Bao Meisheng
In April and May of the year when she was about to turn nineteen, Bao Meisheng completed her first composition "Enlightenment at Nineteen", which was later renamed "Growing Up" ”, included on her first album.
Although participating in the Golden Rhythm Awards made her famous and she also made records, Bao Meisheng did not intend to embark on the road of singing from now on. She thinks she is lucky to be able to approach singing with an after-school attitude. She is allowed to make her own decisions at home, and she just hopes that she will not sing in public in restaurants. But she is just a girl who loves to sing, not for fame or fortune. Only in this way will singing not be a burden. Once, the school held a lecture on current affairs analysis, and very few students attended. The second time, there was a concert at the same place, and it was crowded. Bao Meisheng was very emotional because of this. It’s good that so many people like to listen to Chinese songs, but should today’s college students pay more attention to the world situation? Bao Meisheng, who has a relatively quiet personality, likes to watch movies and go on outings, and she also likes to walk in the mountains. ──It’s not hard work climbing a mountain. What I'm most afraid of is shopping in crowded places, it's just looking for trouble. She also likes to chat and sing with her good friends. Because she has become a celebrity through the Golden Rhyme Awards, Bao Meisheng now often has to participate in concert performances. She cannot make arbitrary choices. Sometimes she has to go even if she doesn't really want to go. Sometimes she doesn't dare to eat chili for fear of having a bad voice. Although they are all small things, they are also troubles. Some people can listen to music while doing things, but Bao Meisheng has to be very focused every time she listens to music. She likes lyrical music, admires Yang Xian very much, and also appreciates his early works. Bao Meisheng
If some songwriters nowadays take "whether it will be popular" as the first consideration when creating, it will lead to great adverse consequences. Bao Meisheng believes that if the future of folk songs is When combined with commercialization, it becomes very worrying.
When recording her first record, Bao Meisheng had no experience at all and she could sing whatever she was asked to sing. This time for the second picture, she could make some decisions on her own, because after all these days, she has grown up and knows how to cherish her feathers. Her principles for choosing songs are firstly to be nice and secondly to be moving. Although the lyrics of a song are important, the rhythm is also important. She will never accept it just because the lyrics are good, because there is no good tune, and only good lyrics are not good enough. If it’s good, you can’t show it. Bao Meisheng and Hou Dejian, the author of "Catching Loaches", lived and grew up in the same village when they were young. At a concert, they both sang the song "Catching Loaches". The taste was very different. One was really big. The appearance of the elder brother is very interesting, as is the little sister who begs the elder brother to take him to catch loaches.
Bao Meisheng
She sings just because she likes to sing. She doesn’t like to be taken advantage of. She will not participate in irrelevant activities. She believes: "Singing is a very simple thing. Don't complicate it." That's probably the right attitude. Originally, isn't it enough to make yourself happy and make others happy?
In 1977, she participated in the competition with her original song "Growth (Enlightened at 19)" and won the first Golden Rhythm Award. Award for the Outstanding Prize in the Creative Group (Champion Chen Mingshao). She was nineteen years old that year and studying in the History Department of National Taiwan University. Later, he became well-known to fans for his song "Little Jasmine" in the Golden Rhyme Award commemorative album, and attracted attention for his creative talent. Strike while the iron is hot, Xinge Records released her first solo album "Songs of Bao Meisheng", which contains many personal original songs, as well as the debut works of Hou Dejian and Qiu Chen. While recording for "Catching Loaches," she couldn't help but cry. It was not because she was moved by the song, but because it sounded too much like a children's song, which made her feel very embarrassed. With the help of the producer's carrot and stick, she became the first singer of the song, which became unexpectedly popular. When she was a child, she and Hou Dejian, the creator of "Catching Loaches" lived in the same village and went to the same kindergarten, but they were not familiar with each other. Unexpectedly, when they grew up, they would become connected again through folk songs.
Together with other folk singers, she left behind the simple and beautiful feelings of her youth because of folk songs. During this time, she loved stamp collecting and fell in love with Chen Anbin, the president and senior student of the National Taiwan University Philatelic Society. In 1980, they got married shortly after graduation, and then they went to California, USA, for further studies. Before quitting the music scene, she released four albums, one in less than a year. She is a very prolific folk singer. While her husband was studying for a doctorate in engineering in the United States, she worked in a travel agency. In 1987, the U.S. stock market crashed, which directly affected the couple's securities investment. However, the experience of this failure inspired Chen Anbin to launch a research project on "using computers to replace human brains in financial decision-making." In 1991, the couple returned to Taiwan and settled in Hsinchu. After several years of research and hardships, they obtained investment and finally established Baoji Information Company. In the early days of starting a business, Chen Anbin, the nominal general consultant, did everything personally. As general manager, she also started from basic administrative affairs. Today, "Baoji Information" has a very good reputation in Taiwan's high-tech field, attracting many well-known foreign senior executives. Technology companies take stock and earn hundreds of millions of dollars in profits. Now she is still working as a consultant in the company, her two sons and one daughter have grown up, and she has a happy family life. In the "Folk Song Thirty" series of commemorative events, she had not appeared in public as a singer for nearly 25 years after fading out of the music scene. In 2004, she agreed to return to the stage and reunited with everyone at the "Good Folk Song" concert. The most surprising thing was that she She was happy to see Chen Mingshao, whom she had not seen for more than 20 years. Recalling those years, she said: "We used to sing without makeup or costumes. It was like a class reunion when everyone got together. To me, it was like a student activity, so I never felt like I was joining in." After entering the music industry, there is no such thing as quitting. " Bao Meisheng
During the "Folk Song Carnival: Forever Weiyang Song" concert, her humorous words made the audience laugh from time to time. It can be seen from this that Bao Meisheng in life must be a cheerful and wise ****.
Album introduction
"Songs of Pao Meisheng" 1978
"Songs of Pao Meisheng" constructs the basic tonality of the album with fresh creative ballads. "Catching Loaches" written by Hou Dejian was extremely popular at the time, and both adults and children could hum a few lines. Composition general Qiu Chen*** released two songs, "Look at Me, Listen to Me" and "You Waiting for Me Deep in the Sunset", which are Bao Meisheng's well-known songs. Another important genre in the folk song period was the re-creation of classical poetry. Originating from Baiyun's relics, "Happy Tonight" composed by Hualisi, quoted from the Song Dynasty poem "The Hairpin Phoenix" written by Lu You, as well as Zhang Ji's seven-character quatrains, and Guo Zhiyuan's "Night Mooring at Maple Bridge" ”, the three songs all take difficult verses that were difficult to get close to in the past and re-cover them with folk songs in a new green coat of civilians. As for the song "You Come", it depicts a strong sense of nostalgia through a large-scale modulation, which is impressive; and "Growing Up (Enlightened at 19)" was written by Pao Mei-sheng to her classmates when she was studying at National Taiwan University. A sketch about youth, this piece is also her first published creation.

" "Song of Woodcutter" 1981
"Song of Woodcutter" was published in 1981. It was the last album of Bao Meisheng before going to the United States for further studies. It is also the most mature album among all the albums he has published. The songwriters for this album were all chosen at the drop of a hat. The song of the same name of the album is the masterpiece of Jin Tiezhang, who is good at writing Chinese-style songs: Huang Dacheng's "Fishermen's Song" is his first song about his longing for heaven and earth, while "Woodman's Song" is another expression of his eagerness for the life of a hermit. Expression; as for the dialogue between the two, it is summarized in the song "Qiao Qiao Qiao" in the "Li Jianfu Album" published by Tianshui Music Collection.
"Bamboo Posture" written by Lai Xi'an and Dai Zhixing, through the majestic string introduction and chorus momentum, as well as the arrangement of pipe bells, outlines the ardent instructions to bid farewell to the wanderers leaving their hometown. The lyrics of the writer Ono's younger brother, Jin Ren, diversified the life feelings of college students at that time: including "Mother's Letter" which longs for maternal love, "It's June Again" which describes the feelings of graduation, and "It's June Again" which describes the feelings of graduation. There are works such as "Catching Butterflies", a random letter written in the camp, and "Yangguan Die", a portrayal of the mood of leaving home after returning to school.
In addition to the above-mentioned songs, the ballad "If Not" by the duo of Hong Guangda and Ma Zhaojun is also an important work in the album. Folk singers Li Jianfu, Zhong Lily and Huang Yunling also released songs in this album. Especially Huang Yunling's "Second Dream": it uses a two-stage modulation to express the yearning for the dream country. It is a very ingenious musical arrangement. The most noteworthy thing in the album is that Bao Meisheng also has a jazz composition "For a Little Girl". In addition, "Moonlight Night on the Secret Demon Cliff" composed by Su Lai and lyrics by Hu Shi is also another masterpiece.
Folk singers under Xinge at that time, such as Tan Quanzhong, Wu Minghua, Su Lai, Wang Xinlian, Yang Fangyi, etc., also supported the chorus in this record. This was also a common practice in records in the folk song era: supporting each other. Help and jointly realize the ideal of music; especially the chorus performance of "Bamboo Posture", the audience can listen carefully.
