Y-3

About Y-3 The collaboration between Adidas and Yamamoto began in 2001.

From that time on, as Adidas for Yohji Yamamoto, Adidas was in charge of the design of the footwear in addition to the design of Femme/Homme by Yohji Yamamoto. Based on the mutual trust between Yohji Yamamoto and Adidas, a new brand Y-3 was born in 2002, which absorbed the strengths of both companies.

The two brands are completely different, and with different sensibilities for fashion, different views on sports brands, and skill in craftsmanship, a new generation of sports fashion brand apparel for the future was born. The fundamental visual requirements of both parties were the same in terms of creation, and this, coupled with a very close collaborative relationship, made it possible for such an idea to be realized.

In terms of the relationship between the two companies, Adidas for Yohji Yamamoto has evolved into a complete merchandising structure, with Yohji Yamamoto designing the Adidas Sports Style, which has given rise to the Y-3's strong position.

In terms of the company's management structure, the Sports Style Division of Adidas is run by the Y-3 group of companies. On the design side, Yohji Yamamoto is the design director of the Adidas Sports Style Division, and Michel Michalsky, the art director of the Adidas group of companies, is the liaison between Adidas and Yohji Yamamoto's design studio.

The Y-3 design studios at Yohji Yamamoto's head office in Tokyo and at Adidas' head office in Herzogenaurach, Germany, worked closely with each other, and the designers worked together countless times to decide on the final design.

In this mix, Adidas, the originator of the sneaker, and Yohji Yamamoto, the fashion industry's design guru, blended their professional knowledge and skills to come up with what is now known as the Y-3

The Yohji Yamamoto-designed Adidas Sports Collection made its way to the U.S. and celebrated its arrival.

On September 13th, more than 1,200 people attended the Y-32006 Spring/Summer Fashion Show at the Landmark on 55th Street in New York City. The guests felt like they were in a treasure trove created especially for them by Y-3 this season. With the background music and smoke, the models appeared on the silver runway with three lines representing Y-3. The atmosphere was one of glamor and glitz, illuminating New York City, the fashion capital of the world.

This season, under the influence of the most important dance trend of the 21st century, Yohji Yamamoto and Micheal Michalsky, Director of Brand Design at Adidas HQ, joined forces to present a unique set of new Y-3 designs. From the New York disco to the elegant Argentine tango, Y-3 is a special concept that reinterprets clothing, footwear and accessories for the 21st century.

The most representative colors are black, white, blue and red. Men's clothing is elegant and casual; a perfect combination of sports and fashion. Styles include sports jackets, extended short suits, leggings and vests, and Edwardian belted jackets with curved hems.

The women's collection is a combination of sexy and feminine. There were backless, ultra-short dresses that fit comfortably and tightly in leather pants, and voluminous, flouncy belted dresses in lightweight materials. In particular, this season's denim collection has been expanded to include both men's and women's designs, as has the swimwear department.

The pattern design is the highlight of Y-3 this season. Humorously using bank notes as an element, the campus wear pattern was made up of a variety of currencies, which were used on individual or entire pairs of jeans or sleeveless tank tops, as well as on women's jackets and skirts.

In terms of footwear, the design of women's high heeled shoes moved into another phase. For men's shoes, the classic design style was maintained, but the workmanship was more exquisite than ever. In terms of accessories, small items include whistles, pearl chains representing love, and women's shawls; large items include suitcases and beach bags. There's also a crystal-encrusted soccer ball, a collaboration with Swarovski.

This season, Y-3 has added SPORT STYLE, SPORT JEANS, and SPORT LUXURY. SPORT STYLE is a collection of athleisure wear for the modern lifestyle and perfect for everyday wear, while SPORT JEANS is a classic combination of denim and knitwear. SPORT JEANS, a classic combination of denim and knitwear craftsmanship, is the ultimate, entirely made in Italy, while SPORT LUXURY is an unexpected product inspired by sport, a collection that moves in a more design-oriented direction.

Entering its seventh season, Y-3 continues to introduce new products. The combination of modern design and traditional craftsmanship is perfectly suited to the modern consumer. The entry into the U.S. market has opened a new page for the Y-3 brand. It creates a new development direction for fashionable sportswear. It combines the design concept of Yohji Yamamoto and Adidas in the sports goods exquisite craftsmanship, is the innovation of sportswear, and with the passage of time and increasingly perfect.
