Original text of the excerpt:
A guard's figure swept by the cell door, and the sound of soft footsteps caught the attention of Sun Mingxia, who was lying still, and as soon as she had rolled over, she headed for the door. "Sister Jiang!" Sun Mingxia ran back briskly and called out in surprise, "Another letter has come."
Sun Mingxia's crystalline eyes gazed at the piece of paper. Many of her comrades had long since rolled over and gotten up, crowding to Sun Mingxia's side. There were also a few who had quietly guarded the cell doors and windows, watching for enemies that might appear at any time. Though they knew that the watchman on duty tonight was one of their own.
The people in the women's room knew about him because every time that watchman delivered the letter to the women's room and never to the other cells. At that moment, Sun Mingxia grabbed Jiang's hand and eagerly read in a whispering voice: "On October 1, 1949, Chairman Mao Zedong announced to the world in Beijing that the Chinese People's **** and State was established."
"Yikes! Comrades, our country is founded!"
The exhilarated people, in low voices, cheered, "The Chinese people have stood up!"
"Be quiet, listen to me read again." Sun Mingxia's voice was even lower, and people held their breath. "The working people of the world rejoice, new China stands in the east of the world." "Long live, ten thousand years!"

Expanded Information
People have the impression that it was Sister Jiang and the others who embroidered the red flag, but in fact it was someone else.
After the "tap dance" at the prison party, the agents were so angry with Luo Guangbin that they couldn't do anything about it. The first time I've seen this, I've seen it, and I've seen it, and I've seen it. It's useless. They simply "sent" Luo Guangbin "to college".
According to Luo Guangbin's statement in the report, the police department, the second division and other places are "elementary school", the Jhaju Cave is a "middle school", the White House is a "university" (one said, the Jhaju Cave, the White House is a "university"). Jieju-dong and Baigongguan were secondary schools, and Xifeng Concentration Camp in Guizhou was a university). The people who were put in the Baigongguan detention center were all felons.
Just eight months after Luo Guangbin was transferred to Baigongguan, on Oct. 1, 1949, Chairman Mao Zedong announced to the world in Beijing that the People's Republic of China had been founded.
On Oct. 7, seven days after the five-star red flag was raised in Beijing's Tiananmen Square, the news was heard by the refugees at Bai Gongfu. Under the watchful eyes of the guarding secret agents, they cheered excitedly, but only at a whispering volume; they embraced excitedly, but their next action could only be to take advantage of the situation to roll around on the ground again and again.
No one slept that night. Luo Guangbin suddenly had an idea.
"Comrades! We should also make a five-star red flag, and we're going to break out of the cell door with this red flag!"
"Old Luo then tore off his saffron quilt top, and at that time we didn't know how the five-star pattern was arranged, so we all quietly discussed that it should be placed in the center of the flag to form a circle."
This is a recollection from Mao Xiaochu, who escaped from the White House. He had been locked up with Luo Guangbin in the Ping II room and escaped together, and later became deputy secretary of the Party committee of the Yunnan Institute of Geological Sciences.
Speaking of embroidery, Luo Guangbin and the others had neither scissors nor needle and thread. They used a "small carving knife" made from a piece of iron to carve the yellow straw paper into five five-pointed stars. There was no glue, so they used leftover rice grains to glue the stars onto the red silk quilt top.
The five-starred red flag was made, and although it was roughly made, the refugees hid it like a treasure under a piece of flooring in the cell until it was taken out after liberation. Years later, the original red flag has long been lost, and the one now on display was copied as described in the novel Red Rock. Perhaps this is the only "five-star red flag" that does not look like the five-star red flag on **** and the land.
Besides the five-star red flag, the revolutionaries who were imprisoned in the Jagdreh Cave and the White House also prepared a number of proposals in the hope that, after their release from prison, they would be able to contribute to the construction of a new China. However, at this time, the enemy on the verge of extinction was jumping over the wall, and was about to carry out the final madness. The sporadic massacres have already begun.
In the darkest hour before dawn, on November 27, 1949, Huang Xiansheng, a senior KMT general imprisoned in the White House, woke up early and tore another page from the calendar on his desk. He did not expect that the calendar was forever fixed on this day.
