"The Trouble with Charlotte" is actually a tragedy about the psychological crisis of middle age. Middle age is an awkward stage, where the ideals of adolescence are gradually worn out in reality, and one has to carry the burden of the old and the young on one's back; where one lacks the grandiose aspirations of the young, and fails to attain the blandness and spontaneity of the old; where one lacks confidence in the road ahead, and is reluctant to let go of the ideals of youth; where one has the guilt of not being able to make his family live a better life, and the feeling of inferiority of his classmates and friends in the neighborhood. The feeling of inferiority is also a feeling of comparing with neighboring students and friends. Therefore, face is sometimes very important.
What the movie expresses is that after the psychological crisis in the middle age, and then continue to be unrealistic and forceful, and get nothing more than a dream, no matter whether or not you know that your dream is a guest, no matter the dream world is again magnificent and brilliant, he is still the reality of that he, his every move, all the choices are still subordinate to his heart. The dream is over when you wake up, you can neither change the status quo, nor can you change your heart. The inner strength still has to be realized in reality, which can't be easily solved by a dream
