The most worthwhile attraction in Tengchong is Tengchong Volcano National Geopark.
Beauty is everywhere, but volcanoes are not everywhere. Tengchong is known as the city on the volcano, due to its geographic location, frequent geological activity, frequent volcanic eruptions. Tengchong has one of the largest number of volcanic craters in China. Of course, due to the age, many of the craters have not been able to maintain their eruption shapes. Some well-preserved volcanoes have been protected, which is now the Tengchong Volcanoes National Geopark.
Tengchong Volcanoes National Geopark is not far from Tengchong city, about forty minutes by car. Into the park, there is a volcano museum, the museum listed many address specimens, interested can go to see. If you are not interested, you can choose to hike up the volcano or take a hot air balloon ride to see the volcano.
There are 97 volcanoes in the park, which were formed between the Pliocene and Holocene, between about 3.4 million and 10,000 years ago, with 4 volcanoes*** formed around 10,000 years ago. The lava from earlier volcanoes has been subjected to intense weathering over a long period of time, and most of the volcanic cones have been destroyed, preserving only six volcanoes where dome landforms or volcanic mountains can still be seen. Some of them are dormant volcanoes.
