In 1995, after graduating from an art school with a degree in dance, Linghua returned to her hometown of Ordos, where she worked as an electrical appliance saleswoman.In 1997, Linghua persuaded her parents to go to Shenzhen alone in search of a suitable platform for herself. The Phoenix Legends, formerly known as Cool Fire, were formed in September 1997, but they are still in the midst of a new phase of their career, which is now underway.
In 1998, Zeng Yi gave up his regular job to join his good friend who ran the Golden Age Ballroom in Shenzhen; at the end of the year, Linghua, who had unsuccessfully taken the exams at the Window of the World and the Folk Village, applied for a job at the Golden Age Ballroom, and was admitted to the program as a contracted performer, becoming a colleague of Zeng Yi, who was the music director of the Ballroom, and setting up a singing group.
The two decided to name the group "Cool Fire" out of their love for the Korean group Cool Dragon. The group became the mainstay of the Performing Arts Center, and the nightly four-hour shows at the Golden Age Performing Arts Center, choreographed and directed by Zeng Yi, became a signature in the Shenzhen performance market; in the same year, the group participated in the "New Artist Award of the Broadcasting and Television Music Festival" held in Guangdong, and made it to the finals.
In May 1999, Linghua, Zeng Yi and Zhang Jie formally established the "Hair Nerve Group". Linghua explained: "Because we just formed a group, if we don't have a loud name for fear that people can't remember, so we came up with this name "Fake Nerve", which means spiritually refreshed."
