"Night Shanghai" was composed by Chen Gexin, with lyrics by Fan Yanqiao and sung by Zhou Xuan. Shanghai by Night" was originally an interlude for the 1946 movie "Long Xiang Si". The song has a strong jazz style, reflecting the flavor of Shanghai's cosmopolitan city back then. It was later covered by Luo Wen. It has been sung to this day.
Lyrics to "Shanghai by Night"
Shanghai by Night
Shanghai by Night
The lights are up, the music is loud, the songs and the dances are loud
Only see her smiling face to welcome who knows she is suffering in her heart
The night life is all about food, clothing, housing, and transportation
Wine doesn't make anyone drunk
With the sky and the earth, we wasted our youth
Hazy dawn and weary eyes
With the turning of the wheels
Changing to a new world and a new environment
Remembering the night life as if waking up from a dream
