Four major buildings in Old Sacramento

Old King[edit]

Besides Sutter's Castle the oldest part of the town is Old Sacramento, which is paved with cobblestones It has streets and numerous historic buildings, several from the 1850s and 1860s. Buildings have been preserved, restored or rebuilt, and the district is now a sprawling tourist attraction, with rides on steam-hauled historic trains and paddle steamers.

Historic buildings include the Lady Adams Mansion, built by passengers of the ship Lady Adams and the ship's carpenters. [42] Having survived the great deflagration of November 1852, it is the oldest surviving building such as Fort Bisutter in Sacramento. [ 42 ]

California’s first permanent theater, the Eagle Theater (Sacramento, CA) was rebuilt

Another surviving landmark is the BF Hastings building, built in In 1853, it was the early home of the California Supreme Court and the offices of Theodore Judah, which was the western terminus of the Pony Express. [43]

The "Four Buildings", built in 1852, were the home offices of Collis Huntington, Mark Hopkins, Leland Stanford, and Charles Crocker. The Central Pacific Railroad and the Southern Pacific Railroad were founded. The original building was destroyed in 1963 for the construction of Interstate 5, but was recreated in 1965 with original elements. It is now a National Historic Landmark. Next to it is the McClatchy Main Stage, originally built as a television studio, which was renovated at the same time as the pavilion was built. It is the smallest venue and offers seating for only 300. The Sacramento Ballet, Sacramento Philharmonic, and Opera Sacramento perform at the Community Center Theater.
