Introduction to Hani Dance

The Palm Fan Dance is a ritual dance originated from the ancient totem worship of the Hani people, in which people hold palm leaves in their hands and act as the feathers of white pheasants, which can bring good luck and happiness to the people, and simulate the natural forms of white pheasants playing, strolling and peeping under the trees with the accompaniment of a soothing and soft music characteristic of Dai people. The dance movements are simple and delicate, fully expressing the yearning of the Hani people for a better life. In Hani custom, when an old man dies, people who come to offer condolences will dance the group funeral dance "Mo Rub Rub" around the house of the deceased in order to express their condolences.

The dance is always closely integrated with music, and the content is often related to ancient legends. In the south bank of the Red River, the most widely circulated are the three-stringed dance, quadrangle dance, fan dance, Luozuo dance, wood bird dance, clapping dance, money stick dance and so on.
