In 2015, the song was selected as one of my top ten favorite anti-war songs by the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television of China. The melody of "Guerrilla Song" is easy, smooth and lively, and the elastic snare drum-like rhythm runs through the whole song, which not only gives a sense of progress to the tune, but also expresses the typical image of guerrilla fighters who skillfully and flexibly maneuver with the enemy and wait for an opportunity to destroy them.

Song Appreciation

The whole song has a concentrated range of tones, a distinctive image, and a common language, which is the reason why this song can be sung for a long time among the masses. The Song of the Guerrillas, which was born on the battlefield, greatly boosted the morale of the soldiers and promoted civil-military unity, and was widely sung in the barracks and among the masses. Moreover, it sings the national spirit of resourcefulness, courage and resilience, inspiring generations of Chinese children to march forward.

The Guerrilla Song is a three-part structure with a contrasting middle section. The first section starts with a pure and smooth tone and a light and agile rhythm, and continues to expand its range as it develops, making the musical image full of dynamism. The second section moves into the genitive mode, with a robust and powerful contrasting theme full of confidence and strength. The third movement is a reproduction of the theme of the first section, leaving the image of the partisans in people's memories forever.
