To celebrate the year 2021, Boston power has now posted videos on its official, entire lineup of robots, including atlas, spot, and handbox, dancing. In terms of warehouse logistics, stakeholders argue that this application is likely to be inferior. boston power's unique strengths are excellent balance, agility and mobility, so moving around on a regular flat surface in a warehouse would be a waste. The warehouse scenario only requires four wheels, and this solution is cheap, efficient and easy to implement. Maybe a robot handle with wheels would work, but it's still suspected of being too high quality.
Parcel delivery, courier is the cheapest and most efficient solution for regular parcel delivery. But food delivery robots have advantages too. Because food orders are intermittent and unpredictable, delivery workers often have to wait. For robots, the cost of waiting time is very low. And they can accurately predict delivery times to hungry customers, and are even willing to deliver to customers themselves. Of course, spotmini has the ability to fulfill needs such as the last mile of delivery, even if it has to climb stairs to the customer's door. Considering that existing delivery robots usually have limited locomotion and can only be parked on the side of the road, this presents an opportunity for spotmini. This is certainly a great opportunity, say those involved. However, given the complex bumps in the last stretch of road, there is still a lot of research to be done in terms of perception and motion planning in order to get from the road to the customer's doorstep.
Engineering, the construction site, is certainly a dangerous environment with many complex objects. The ability of robots to move on the ground is changing, and the situation is very good. spotmini can move heavy objects between two points, but the cost of implementing automated handling algorithms is extra. Caregiving, i.e. service robots that help take care of the elderly or disabled, will be an important part of the future of life. But we may also need to build the technology we need to operate our mini-homes efficiently and reliably for more than a decade. This applies not only to Boston Dynamics, but also to other companies interested in it. It's a puzzle.
This is probably the most important slide in the entire presentation, and it shows exactly what applications various robots can currently achieve. Currently, these robots are not able to participate in warehousing and logistics, parcel delivery, engineering and construction, and nursing services. While robotics continues to evolve on a daily basis, even industry leaders like Boston Dynamics recognize that robotics still has a long way to go. What's left up in the air is whether newly developed robots can fulfill the range of applications in the yellow circle, or whether they can be covered by improving the existing robots on the left side of the diagram.
