It started in France. As a' companion', I came to Monte Carlo with Mrs. Van Hoff.
one day, at the seaside, I saw a man wandering on the edge of a steep cliff. I thought he was going to throw himself into the sea, so I let out a cry. He gave me an angry glance. I know I was wrong. He's a real weirdo. It happened that he stayed in the same hotel with us. From Mrs. Van Hoff, I know that he is Mr. derwent, the owner of the famous Manderley Manor. His wife, the beautiful Rebecca, rowed and drowned last year. Maybe that's why he is so strange.
