Located in the center of Shanghai, Culture Square is bounded by South Maoming Road to the east, South Shaanxi Road to the west, Fuxing Road to the north and Yongjia Road to the south
During the 1920s and 30s of the last century, this area used to be a French businessmen's running club in the old Shanghai, which was known as the Yiyuan Dog Running Ground, which had a capacity of more than 20,000 people. It was known as "the first big casino in the Far East" and was equipped with hotels, dance halls and open-air movie theaters to serve the gamblers.
