At the age of 15 (1938), Jia Zuoguang began to study dance under the tutelage of Mo Ishii, the father of modern dance in Asia (Japan), and Chaplin, a decorated artist of the former Soviet Union. His early works, "Fishing Song", expresses the fishermen's painful life of fishing; "Wolf and Sheep" reflects the scenes suggesting the invasion of the enemy and the resistance of the masses.
In the summer of 1942, Chaplin accepted the propaganda of the underground party, "Mao Zedong's Speech at the Yan'an Literary and Artistic Symposium", and studied the ideas of the speech. His works include Suwu Shepherds, Young Riders (Soul of the Nation), Hometown, The Devil, The Lost Lamb, and No War on the Western Front.
In 1944, life was a grind and a search for light. In 1946, he entered the liberated area of Northeast China and met with artists such as Wu Xiaobang, Lv Ji, Xiangshu, Tang Ruomei and Shuihua. With Wu Xiaobang, he went to the Temple of the King, Ge Ge Temple, and watched for the first time a lama dancing the ghost (the dancers all wore masks), the Chama.
In 1947, he joined the Inner Mongolia Cultural Troupe (now Inner Mongolia Song and Dance Drama Theater), and served as head of the performance section, deputy director, and choreographer and actor. He insisted on going deep into the life to learn from the people, "accumulating learning and storing treasures, discretionary rich talent". And created a large number of dance works. Representative works are "horse herding dance", "geese dance", "saber dance", "Ha Kumai", "Oroqen" and so on.
In 1949, on the eve of the founding of new China, he represented China to participate in the second world youth friendship festival. She performed with world-famous ballet master Ulanova (former Soviet Union), and world-famous movie master Gerasimov was the stage supervisor, which won positive praise.
In 1955, she was admitted to the Beijing Dance School (now Beijing Dance Academy), and later became the leader of the Academy, establishing the choreography class. (The videotape of "Geese Falling in Taoran" contains a record of my study and work at the Dance Academy). During this period, I created "Ocean Waves" and learned from dock workers about handling and other work scenes.
The "Ordos", "Cup and Bowl Dance" and "Milkman's Dance" created in the 50s and 60s were awarded the first prize, gold medal and bronze medal respectively at the World Youth and Student Peace and Friendship Festival. The "Garba" (Fish Dance) was awarded the Three Gorges Cup.
In the 70's, the dance "Rainbow" was created, which won the first prize for creation and performance in the 30th anniversary of National Day, and became popular all over the country. During this period, there were also "Lamp Dance", "Hongyan High Flying", "Herdsmen Meet Chairman Mao", and so on. Sea Waves", "Hope in a Moment", "Young Horse Herder" and "Reverie of Fire" won the first, second and third prizes in the Second National Dance Competition and Beijing Dance Competition respectively. Nearly 150 dance works were created from the 1950s to the 1980s and became popular both at home and abroad, and the number of awards won was the highest in China.
In 1986, the Dance Party of Fifty Years of Jia Zuoguang's Dancing Career was held in Beijing National Culture Palace. In 1987, the first "Jia Zuoguang Artistic Thought Seminar" was held in Beijing, chaired by Wu Xiaobang.
Since the 90's, he has often gone into the life of the farmers counseling. Such as: Henan "Copper Dance", "Pangu Dance", Changli "rice-planting song", Buxin "Chama", Hebei Gaocheng "drums", Jingfu "Lahua", Zhemeng's "Andai", Liaoyang "stilts", etc., all in Beijing Square Dance "Longtan Cup" Competition won the Gold Medal, the winning prize. At the same time, he also served as artistic director in many professional song and dance groups, and provided field guidance for some creations, such as Hubei's "Nine Songs", Inner Mongolia's "Gesar", etc. In Inner Mongolia, "Ordos" was performed. In Inner Mongolia, he was the chief choreographer and director of the dance poem "Ordos Sentiment", which won the "Five One Project" award.
At the end of the 20th century, the works of "Shepherd Horse Dance", "Ordos" and "Sea Waves" won the "20th Century Chinese Classic Dance Golden Statue Award."
In terms of foreign cultural exchanges, she has visited more than 40 countries and regions for cultural exchanges, performances and lectures, and has been a member of the jury of many international dance competitions.
Years of artistic practice and lecturing led to the publication and release of Jia Zuoguang's Anthology of Dance Art in 1992. In the book, Jia Zuoguang put forward the "stability, accuracy, sensitivity, cleanliness, lightness, softness, robustness, rhythm, beauty, and love" cross elements that dancers must master.
In March 2000, the Ministry of Culture of China, the China Federation of Literary Associations, the China Dance Association, the Beijing Dance Association and other organizations jointly held the "Jia Zuoguang Dance Art Thought Symposium" in Beijing, and at the same time staged the "Dance Evening Party for the People's Dance Artists "Hongyan", which was a great success. At the same time, it staged the "Dance Party dedicated to the People's Dance Artist "Hongyan", which was a great success and had a very strong reaction in the whole country, and the effect was very much added.
In 2002, the publication of "Jia Zuoguang artistic life" VCD CD-ROM, "artistic life" album, held a grand press conference and signing activities. In April of the same year, a grand celebration was held in Beijing for the 65th anniversary of Jia Zuoguang's career in the arts, and the unveiling ceremony of the bronze statue of Jia Zuoguang was also held.
In December 2003, Jia Zuoguang was awarded the "Achievement Award of Performing Arts" by the Ministry of Culture.
In June 2006, the DVDs of "Hongyan - Dedicated to the People's Dancer Jia Zuoguang "Hongyan" Gala", "Soaring - Jia Zuoguang's Classical Dance Works DVD, "Soaring - Jia Zuoguang's Classic Dance Works", and "The Geese Singing in the Sky - Jia Zuoguang's Artistic Personalized Stamps" were officially launched in Hong Kong.
On June 11, 2006, Jia Zuoguang, on behalf of Mainland China, participated in the opening ceremony of the Hong Kong International Dance Festival 2006, and held a performance titled "Dancing in China". --The Pearl of the Orient, Jia Zuoguang Dance Art Viewing Ceremony and Chinese Contemporary Dance Art Presentation", the performance and speech, the response was extremely strong.
On June 12, 2006, Jia Zuoguang led a group of Chinese contemporary dancers to pay tribute to all the officers and soldiers of the Hong Kong Garrison and gave them a wonderful performance.
In 2013, "Large-scale TV Biopic - Jia Zuoguang" is under intense shooting and production.
The publication of books such as "Mr. Jia Zuoguang's Autobiography", "Collection of Art Essays", "Collection of Poems", and "Collection of Art Criticisms" is also in progress.
Jia Zuoguang has not lost his enthusiasm for dancing, and still works actively for the cause of Chinese dance with outstanding achievements, and is recognized as the most authoritative dance artist in the Chinese dance industry today!
