Sichuan Conservatory of Music

History
Sichuan Conservatory of Music was founded in 1939, in early March 1939, Mr. Xiong Fosi, a pioneer of the Chinese Drama Movement and a renowned theatre educator, founded the "Sichuan Provincial Experimental School of Drama Education", which set up a drama department. In August 1942, it was renamed "Sichuan Provincial Art College" (referred to as "Provincial Art College"), and Mr. Li Youxing, a famous painter and educator who had returned from studying in France, was appointed as the principal. There were four departments: music, applied art, architecture and painting. During the war period, a large number of famous experts and professors in arts and culture gathered in Sichuan, including musician Yu Yixuan, painters Zhang Daqian, Wu Zuoren, Ye Qianyu, Ding Cong, Guanliang, sculptor Liu Kaiqu, craftsmen Lei Guiyuan, Pang Kaiqin, Shen Fowen, architects Liu Wenbao, Koo Chiyi, Huang Guanghui, and linguist Lv Shuxiang, and so on, who had come to the school to teach. The "Provincial Art College" became a famous art college in China at that time, with many famous teachers and talented students.
In October 1950, the People's Government of Sichuan Province decided to merge the Music Department of West China University into the Provincial Arts College and renamed it Chengdu Arts College (Chengdu Arts College for short). "

In October 1953, the music department of Chongqing Southwest People's College of the Arts (the former Northwest School of Arts in Linfen, Shanxi Province) was merged into the Chengdu Arts College to establish the Southwest Music College (abbreviated as "Southwest Music College"). Southwest Music College" (abbreviated as "Southwest Music College") was established with three departments: composition, vocal music and instrumental music. The two departments of architecture and fine arts were transferred to Chongqing Architectural Engineering Institute and Sichuan Fine Arts Institute, and the Department of Ethnic Instrumental Music was established in 1957.
In 1959, after six years of "Southwest Institute of Music" approved by the Ministry of Education was officially upgraded and renamed "Sichuan Conservatory of Music", which became one of the first six undergraduate levels of China's famous higher education institutions of music. The first dean was Mr. Chang Sumin, a famous music educator in China. [3]

Discipline Construction
As of 2013, the college has the right to confer master's degrees in three first-level disciplines, namely, Art Theory, Music and Dance, and Fine Arts. The first batch of Master of Fine Arts (MFA) granting rights approved by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council. 2009 began to jointly recruit and train doctoral students in literature and music communication with Sichuan University.
