How to deal with group interviews

I have attended more than ten group interviews, big or small, and would love to analyze them from my own perspective.

The answer is a bit long, but I will talk about the following points: I. Introduction to the general types of group interviews, II. Role of group interviews, III. How to stand out in group interviews

I. Introduction to the general types of group interviews

At present, according to my understanding, the four big companies, FMCG, and other fields use group interviews the most as far as campus recruitment is concerned. Because a person's performance in a group interview is generally the same as the performance of a single face, (after all, a group interview down as short as 20 minutes, long as an hour and a half, the interviewer really want to disguise themselves as a non-self state is still very difficult) but the group interview can be a very good response to the performance of a person in the team (ranging from 6-10 people), as well as to be able to respond to your ability to communicate, resilience, coordination, leadership, and so on, and so on. These features of group interviews are really not available in single interviews.

Because my own goal is to find a job in FMCG MKT, so all the group interviews I've participated in have been for FMCG MKT, and I don't talk about other industries and positions, so I'd like to make that clear, but a lot of the reasoning is still the same.

There are two main types of FMCG MKT group interviews:

1. "Desert Island Survival" class

The reason why it's called the "Desert Island Survival" class is because the group interview questions start with a classic "Desert Island Survival" question. The question is about a deserted island in the middle of a deserted island. The general idea is that there are 10 people trapped on a deserted island, abercrombie france, respectively what is the 60-year-old doctor, 30-year-old pregnant woman, 20-year-old college students, and so on, and now in the deserted island in distress your team to go to save them, but the plane can only carry one person each time to leave the deserted island, how do you arrange for the order of the rescue of the few people. I myself prefer to call this kind of question primary and secondary questions. Take this question for example, you have to consider a lot of factors, the age of these people, identity, the cost of rescuing them, how much value can be created for the community after rescuing them, and how long they can physically hold out on a deserted island, all of these factors, but how to prioritize these factors and make a reasonable order is the key to doing well in this kind of group interviews. Similar topics are: now you are the head of a neighborhood committee, now the public raised on 10 proposals, are what the road should be repaired, the greening should be good to get a good, big moms Square Dance should be rectified a little this kind of, and now you can only report to the government departments on 3, you should choose which three, these are already done bad group face questions la! Slightly with a little business color morphing questions will be: a company is now to launch a so-and-so qualities of the product, now there are Zhang Fei, Jia Baoyu, the Tang Monk three candidates, please select one from these three as the spokesman for this product. This is what you have to consider, choose a spokesman, to consider the spokesman's own characteristics, the characteristics of the product, the company's image, spokesman characteristics and products and the company's fit, when these conditions can not be met at the same time, how to prioritize and get an optimal answer.

2. case interview

case interview is basically a consulting and FMCG more characteristic interview form, consulting did not participate in do not talk about, only said FMCG. The case is 20 pages of English material, and the general idea is to design a new product launch Plan. first of all, give you a lot of raw material information, so that you can choose a raw material according to these (at this time, you have to consider the company's image, product characteristics, raw material transportation costs, whether it is easy to save, nutritional value, consumer acceptance and so on), and then the main and secondary questions ~). The main and secondary questions ~), and then with the materials provided on-site site to produce a sample, and finally need to develop this product to market plan, predict its future risk and give solutions. compared to the main and secondary questions, the case interview will need to interviewers have a strong sense of commercial and professional maturity. Otherwise, the interviewer would be crazy to see 20 pages of material. This time you still need to grasp the main and secondary, as a MKTer, what is what you should consider, what is what you can ignore, what is what you must repeatedly read, what is what can be skimmed, here will not talk about it in detail. case interview is really a relatively real business environment to examine a person's comprehensive ability, each time to do a case are feeling very I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to do that, but I'm going to be able to do it.

3. Other

Otherwise, there are a lot of other things, such as Johnson & Johnson once let the interviewers play cards together, each hand five cards, five cards have different fragmented information, we can not look at each other's cards, can only be through the exchange of information to make up for these defects, and finally to do a deductive question; Yizhi summer intern this year to let interviewers build blocks together, it turns out that Ferris Bueller's choice is the most important thing to do. The first time I saw this is when I was a student at the University of California at Berkeley, and the second time I saw it was when I was a student at the University of California at Berkeley.

Wait a minute, it's all the same!

Second, the role of the group interview

The following group interview role is divided by class, not by number, that is to say, in some group interviews may be a person to assume the role of a few classes, there may be some classes of the role of the role of no one at all.

1. Leader

The leader, as the name suggests, is the person who is responsible for organizing the process of the group.

Common lines: "In this 20-minute period, we should spend X minutes discussing X problem, then X minutes discussing X problem, and finally two minutes preparing for our pre." "I feel like the first thing we need to address is -" "Everyone, let's go to the next step. -" "Let's not argue, I don't think that's the issue we need to focus on right now, our first issue is to get clear first -"

2. time keeper

Time keeper not only to play a time work, but also to grasp the whole discussion with the leader, if found in a detailed problem entangled in too long, time keeper to decisively say "and so on we are going to overtime, we should hurry to discuss the next issue. " The time keeper may seem simple, but it's easy to forget to look at the clock when the discussion is in full swing, and that's a disaster.

3. collaborator

Basically, most of the interviewees assume the role of collaborator in the interview. I'd say there are two kinds that are most likely to stand out. One is to be able to put forward very creative and constructive ideas throughout the whole process, although he may not even know the whole framework of what is going on, and do not understand the whole discussion process, just that is to say here, he suddenly avalanche out of the very good ideas, thinking is very active, then this kind of person is also the team is very much in need of. There is another kind of person who doesn't talk much, but can turn the direction of the team at the critical moment and put forward key questions, his brain is very clear, and he won't be swayed by everyone's discussion, which is also very easy to leave an impression on the interviewer. The kind of from the beginning to the end of a bunch of words, but are not in the focus, obviously in order to fight for the opportunity to speak and speak, basically will give people the impression of spoiler, do not do this kind of thing.

There is usually a person in the collaborator who takes notes.

4. presenter

In my opinion this is the icing on the cake. It's usually taken on by the leader, because the other collaborators don't have as good a grasp of the outcome of the discussion as the leader does, and it's also possible that the presenter will be the one to do the preview. the reason why it's called "the icing on the cake" is that if you've done a good job in the front, and you've done a good job in the preview, you're basically in good shape to get through it. if you've done a bad job in the front, you'll basically get through. If you've done poorly in the first place and want to save your image in the interviewer's mind by doing the pre in the last place, I'd advise you to save this opportunity for someone else who needs it more.

Three, how to stand out in the group interview

Writing here really feels like only four words of advice, suitable for yourself. It's that simple. You originally a very creative person, have to go to ride structure, or you a stuffy gourd, English is not good, have to go to be presenter, not eliminated you eliminated who it. And then send five words due to "teammates" appropriate group face the most charming place, is that you never know what you meet is God teammates or pig teammates. Just like playing cards, you a card is a card, but you a hand of cards, there will be different combinations, very interesting. The same person, facing different teammates, will present a completely different state. And for a group face combination, even if you change one person, the whole group face situation will be different again, full of mystery and excitement. You have to learn to find your own constant position in the changing situation. I'm not sure if this is a good idea, but I'm sure it's a good idea.

After I finished writing, I felt that I was a bit skewed, and I hope that this analysis will help you understand what kind of process the group interview for campus recruitment is. I'm sure you can understand what some companies are trying to accomplish by screening interviewers through group interviews. Through group interviews, the abstract skills of leadership, coordination, time management, adaptability, and communication skills become concrete.

That's all, welcome to the like-minded job hunting party to find me to communicate!
