The first said that the ancient flood period, gathered in the Changhua River Li suffered a huge flood, people and animals died, leaving only a pair of called Tianfei and Nanyin ` brother and sister. When the two siblings grew up, they decided to look for a partner separately, and promised to return to Yanwoling on March 3 every year to meet each other again. As a result, several years passed and they returned to no avail. Seeing that she could not find anyone else, the younger sister endured the pain of using a bamboo stick to tattoo her face with a pattern, and dyed it with a plant to prevent her brother from recognizing her, in order to tie the knot and thus perpetuate the race. So, on March 3 of a year, they were married under the Yanwoling, where they spun and wove, had children, cleared the land and planted fields, dug ponds and raised fish, and reproduced offspring for the Li people. This is also the legend of the origin of the Li "March 3" festival and the tattooed noodles. Every year on March 3, Nanyin and Tianfei returned to this place with their descendants to welcome spring. After many years, Tianfei and Nanyin slept in a cave and turned into a pair of stones. In order to commemorate the achievements of these two siblings, the Li descendants named the cave Niangmu Cave.
Every year on March 3, Li men, women and children will bring glutinous rice, cakes, dumplings and Shanlan rice wine, from all directions to commemorate the ancestors in front of the Niangmu Cave, with songs and dances to pray for the prosperity and happiness of the nation. Later, every March 3, the Li working people commemorated this auspicious day in various ways. March 3rd has naturally become a grand festival of the Li family.
