Before he became a poop shoveling general, Bai Cha drew illustrations and posters for a living. Liking to read science fiction novels, he drew sci-fi subjects when he first joined the industry, "I value visual stimulation very much, and I hope I can create a very amazing world." This was his initial pursuit. He won the 2009 and 2010 Galaxy Award for Best Artwork in Sci-Fi World and the 2009 Nebula Award for Best Artwork. He draws covers for science fiction and anime magazines, and is also Zheng Yuanjie's contracted artist. Even so, he is not well off. He earns a few hundred dollars for a single drawing, but it takes him several days to draw, and "the fee is too low in this circle!" Every month he pays the rent and utility bills, and then has a barbecue and a movie with his girlfriend, and then there's not much left.

This is why his father initially objected to his painting. Painting is a gift for Bai Cha, who has picked up a paintbrush since the day he can remember, and he can paint whatever he sees and thinks of. I remember when my father taught him to write his name, he couldn't learn and drew himself. But because his family was from a rural area, his father felt that he could only have a future as a doctor.

Bai Cha, however, could not resist his love of drawing. When he was in school, he would go hungry and secretly save up his food money to buy comic books at the bookstore in the county town every half a month. His favorite was "Dunkers", which he would read over and over again, copying it many times. Later, when he saved up a box full of comics, he couldn't help but show them off to his buddies, and then his father found out and tore up all his books in a fit of rage.......

While he compromised with his family in college and studied design in order to get a better job, he never gave up drawing. He drew his favorite ones while illustrating for others. But it wasn't easy to support himself by drawing. At that time, an illustration cost a few dollars, and he only earned four to five hundred dollars a month. Later, he tried to become an editor at a publishing house, but he was ostracized for not being able to adapt to the workplace, and only worked for three months.

Suddenly famous

"The problem of trying to find a way to draw that suited me, so that I could enjoy it and earn money at the same time, has always bothered me." That is, until a chance encounter with a stray cat, which he brought home.

Baicha didn't like cats for a while, thinking they were too haughty and sometimes a bit white-eyed. The cat was also arrogant, and he named it My Emperor. However, the noble and cold Emperor Wu inspired his comical side and desire to create. He decided to draw the inner drama of Emperor Wu. The first drawing was a black and white cat wearing a crown looking at people with contemptuous eyes, accompanied by the text "I like the way you can't stand me but can't get rid of me". After that, Bai Cha transforms into a "teenager", together with his friend's pug "Bazhaji", the daily life of our Emperor, Bazhaji and the teenager is vividly presented by Bai Cha's paintbrush, accompanied by a comical and insightful text, the whole picture comes to life! came alive. "I just wanted to try something like the Chinese painting style. After I finished the painting, I added some words myself, and I didn't expect people to like it."

At first, he drew nine pictures and posted them on his WeChat circle and microblogging, and people responded enthusiastically, asking him for more pictures. His Weibo went up by a thousand fans a day, and he was startled when one tweet was retweeted by Yao Chen and went up by more than 30,000 at once. "There were also fans who contacted me and said they wanted peripherals, so my girlfriend and I made 50 posters and put them out on Weibo, and they were snatched up in a flash... I was kind of surprised... no one wanted any of the stuff before!"

Like it again and earn money

Go Huang became famous almost overnight. "Finally I found a subject that I like to draw and is accepted by everyone!" Bai Cha is a bit excited, before the illustrations were for others, now Bai Cha finally have their own "children".

He realized that as long as he grasped this point, the cartoonist's income is not just so much as a fee, "Once drawing was pure drawing, now many people just want to go to the management of an IP." Then he began to focus on drawing the Emperor Wu series, the first picture book, "I like the way you are not used to me and can not do away with me" published in June! The first illustrated book "Just like you can't stand me but can't fuck me over" was published in June, and it quickly broke into the top five of the hot new book list. Before, Baicha did not use social networks much, now he is learning to run the microblogging, this year in March a friend helped him set up the public number of WeChat, now has nearly 100,000 fans, and is still at the rate of 1,000 per day to increase the number of fans. WeChat also has a series of emoticons of the emperor, just as the red-hot rabbit base, beaver and other cartoon images, the emperor walks a similar path.

But White Tea doesn't seem to have much ambition in IP development. Annie Chen, who has extensive experience in operations, once invited him to join her Quick Look Comics, but was turned down by White Tea, who reasoned, "I don't have a set time to post my work, and I can't keep up with their update rate. I mainly draw me playing with cats, drawing is actually very random, there's a fun idea that comes out before I draw it. I hope to draw slowly and dedicate myself to more fun stuff."

"Drawing Emperor Wu everyone quite like, I just think that no matter this earn money or not, I want to draw it. I hope people will think of me when they mention Emperor Wu." White Tea's original name is Liang Kedong, he said that the name White Tea because he is a Gemini, the character of restlessness, want to let himself sink into the heart to become more quiet. After this round of book promotion, White Tea will return to Xi'an to continue his daily life as a pooper scooper.

Q&A

Q: How did you get the names King Wu and Bazaar Black?

A: It's too high and mighty, it's just a meal I have to beg for. Too domineering, everyone said it long live the emperor, I thought then call it the emperor. Bazahei's name is really arbitrary, I see the square dancers dance is what "Beijing's Jinshan" and finally come to a "Hey, Bazahei", I gave it this name.

Q: Why do you call yourself a teenager when you're 30 years old?

A: Everyone wants to be 18 forever. When I drew it, I thought that I don't meet with the readers, and there is nothing wrong with blowing myself up a little bit, but I didn't realize that I still have to meet them ......

Q: The psychological state of Emperor Wu is: I like it when you can't stand to look at me but can't do anything about me. What's your mentality when you face Emperor Wu? What about Bazaar Black's psyche?

A: It's just Hail to the King. I want teenagers to have their own personalities. Bazaar Black is, wow, everything is amazing! Wow, you're so handsome, master!

Q: It feels like you're enjoying your role as a pooper scooper in your drawings, how about in reality?

A: Well, it's really enjoyable. It shows that people are recognizing my place in my Emperor's heart.

Q: How do you feel when you shovel poop?

A: It's actually quite lazy, I don't really want to shovel it, and it kind of stinks. But if you don't shovel it and it doesn't have a place to poop, it will rub all kinds of things and rub all over the place. There are times when I want to go on strike, so I'll talk to my girlfriend and say, "I'm not going to touch the litter for a couple days, so you do it.

Q: What's the one thing they do that drives you the most crazy?

A: Going crazy on my bed, playing on my bed like they're high on drugs. Ripped the toilet paper into balls and then shredded it, and I ran out of paper when I went to the bathroom.

Q: And the most touching thing?

A: If I lay down on my bed and look like I'm not feeling well, Gohan will run over and lick me. Really tried and true, I do not know if other people's cats are like this. In fact, it licked me twice and left after knowing it was fine, but every time I lay down pretending to be hurt or sick, it would come over to check on me. Sometimes when my girlfriend and I have a fight and she's sitting on the edge of the bed, my king will run over and hang around her legs. You say they don't understand, but I don't think that's really true, it feels like they really care about you and understand your emotions.

Q: What are some of the things that make Myrtle so arrogant?

A: Actually, it's the same as a normal cat's arrogance, if it doesn't want to come over you won't come over no matter how much you call it. I used to actually do not like cats, I think I give it more delicious food is useless, others give it food it will follow others, sometimes even do not want to go home. But then I felt as if this character is more attractive!
