1. The origin of hip-hop

Hip-hop is a kind of folk dance that emerged among African American teenagers in the 1980s. It is a component of the African American "Hip-Hop Culture" part. Because this kind of dance appears on the streets and is not limited to venue equipment, it is called street dance, and it is highly participatory, performative and competitive.

In my country, hip-hop as a form of fitness was introduced by Meng Xianjun of Beijing Sport University in 1995. In order to achieve fitness effects, Meng Xianjun selectively adapted the original hip-hop, choosing chic and decadent. The more difficult and dangerous ground movements in hip-hop performances have been removed. The purpose is not to vent emotions, but to maintain health.

2. Types of hip-hop

Based on movement type, hip-hop is divided into two categories: Hip-Hop and Breaking. Breaking: It is a highly technical sports dance that requires dancers to have high strength, flexibility and coordination. Teenagers who dance this type of dance are called B-Boy/B-Girl.

Hip-Hop: dance-type hip-hop, including Poping, Locking, Electric, Turbo, House and other styles. They are not as demanding as Breaking, but they require more coordination and sense of dance, as well as body flexibility and control.

There is also a saying that hip-hop is collectively called Hip-Hop, including two major categories - Old Shool and New Shool. Old School dance also includes Locking (lock dance), Poping (mechanical dance), Breaking (break dance), Wave (current), while New School dance is generally more "gentle", without much foot movement, and only adds a lot of heads. The movements of the head and hands focus on the rhythm of the upper part of the body. Within the same rhythm, New School appears more varied and smooth, advocating more natural expression, while Old School music has a denser rhythm.

Hip-hop in my country is currently divided into two categories: fitness hip-hop and popular hip-hop. The hip-hop dance in the gym is called fitness hip-hop. It is a combination of extracting and combining the most basic and simple parts of popular hip-hop dance that are beneficial to physical and mental development.
