Argentine Tango’s difficult dance steps
There are three important elements in Argentine Tango: technique, musicality and connection (embrace). These three factors are integrated with each other and are indispensable. In order to help you dance the difficult Argentine tango dance steps, I will share with you three difficult dance steps to solve the tango dance skills~
The skills of tango are actually not that difficult or complicated. After mastering a few important elements, no matter how difficult the steps are in the future, you will be able to do it easily. Because no matter how complicated the steps are, the technical principles are almost the same. And the following skills are necessary to dance tango well. After each paragraph there are links to detailed articles and practice videos.
1. Tango walking (caminata):
Don’t think that walking is unimportant. Although walking in tango is simple, it is very difficult. Regarding walking, many Argentine teachers have their own teaching theories, and even some masters have inconsistent opinions on walking. For example: whether to land on the heels or toes first, bend the knees or straighten the knees, move the feet first or move the upper body first, etc. No matter what method you use, the first important thing is to check whether you have completely shifted your center of gravity (100% conversion of your center of gravity) every step you take. In other words, your center of gravity always remains on one leg. The way to test this center of gravity is whether your hips are above your feet. Therefore, when walking, you must pay great attention to the position of your hips. With each step, you must quickly return your hips to the vertical position above your feet (don't miss or exceed it). Of course, to achieve this, there are many different training methods, and different teachers’ different concepts can help dancers understand walking more comprehensively.
2. Separation of the upper and lower body (disociaci?n):
The separation referred to here means that the upper body (above the waist) and the lower body (below the waist, including the crotch) can be separated at the same time Turn to different directions (using the longitudinal centerline of the body as the axis of rotation). The larger the angle between the two, the more skillful the separation skills will be. Of course, this takes a certain amount of time because certain muscle groups need to be trained for a relatively long time. There are many ways to train, so I won’t give examples here.
3. Pivot:
When the center of gravity is on one foot, the hips and the center of gravity foot change directions at the same time. This is to pay attention to the same time, not one first and one last. The rotation and direction of the upper body are not directly related to Pivot.
These three points are the three major techniques in tango, and many movements are the combination of these three major techniques. For example, the forward or back ocho (forwardocho, back ocho) that girls often do is actually Pivot + forward/backward walking; another example is the most traditional Giro movement, which boys in the inner circle need to master The technique is pivot + upper and lower body separation. For girls in the outer circle, pivot + forward/back/side walking (windmill step molinete) is used. Many times some complex steps cannot be done, so the problem can be solved mainly from these three aspects.
Of course, mastering these three skills does not happen overnight. It requires time, patience and the right method. When you study in class, don't always focus on learning more tricks instead of paying attention to basic or technical classes. Because only by solidly mastering the basic skills can we help you master various difficult step combinations quickly and well, and dance all over the world. ;
