Hani art

Hani people choose to live halfway up the mountain. All Hani people have wing rooms, and buildings with wing rooms form quadrangles. The wing is flat-topped. The roof is paved with thick wood, then crossed with fine wood and straw, and compacted with soil (now mostly plastered with cement) as a terrace. Sunbathing, clothes drying, enjoying the cool, children's games, and women's textiles are often carried out on the terrace. Terrace has become an important place for people's production, labor, daily life and leisure activities, and an important part of terrace agriculture and home life.

The wing is generally used as the housing for unmarried children. The social freedom of young men and women prevails in Hani society, and all adult young men and women are not interfered by their parents in a free society. In some places, children are unmarried, so a small house is built next to the house for children to live in. The wing is used as a shed, or as a guest room, or for stacking farm tools and other sundries. Mojiang area is mostly earthen buildings with flat roofs and interconnected rooms. Hani people in Xishuangbanna live in bamboo buildings with balconies next to them. Hani people can sing and dance well. Musical instruments include Sanxian, Sixian, Eighth Five-Year Plan, Di Zi, Xiangzi and Hulusheng. Bawu is a unique musical instrument of Hani nationality. It is made of bamboo tube, six or seven inches long, with seven holes and a duckbill-shaped flat head at the blowing end. The tone is deep and soft. Dances include three-string dance, clapping dance, fan dance, wooden sparrow dance, music dance, Hulusheng dance and so on. "Winter Wave Dance", popular in Xishuangbanna, is a popular dance form with vigorous posture, lively rhythm and strong atmosphere.

Traditional sports of Hani nationality include single rope swing, gyro, pole climbing, crossbow shooting, bamboo pole grabbing, pole vault, hat dancing and tug of war.
