From then on, competitive swimming has formed four positions: butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle. Freestyle, also known as crawl, is the fastest and most energy-saving stroke in the world. Breaststroke is the oldest swimming stroke, and it was the most commonly used swimming stroke in competitions in the early 19th century; in the early 1950s, breaststroke was allowed to dive into the swim, and in the late 1950s, it was forbidden to dive into the swim except for the start and each turn, which allowed one dive with rowing hands and stirring legs. Butterfly swimming, also known as dolphin swimming, evolved from the breaststroke action. 1933 American Henry Myers (Myers) in the Brooklyn Youth Federation of swimming competitions, for the first time to the world to show the two arms at the same time out of the water from the air to the front, the two legs together up and down to hit the water of the swimming posture. It is called butterfly swimming because it resembles a butterfly spreading its wings, and was recognized by the International Swimming Federation (FIS) as an independent sport in 1935. Backstroke originated from water towing, carrying and other activities, and its development process is related to breaststroke and freestyle. In 1902, freestyle technology was introduced into backstroke, and in 1912, the American athlete H. Hebner adopted the technique of rowing with both arms in turn from the back of the head through the side of the body, and beating the water with the two legs together and up and down alternately. It was later introduced to other countries in the world and gradually became an independent event. In medley swimming, athletes must complete the combination of butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle in the order of one-quarter distance each. Relay swimming is a collective event in which 4 athletes swim a quarter of the distance each. There are two types of relay: freestyle relay and medley relay.
