The village awoke with a start. People rolled over and got out of bed, but they stepped into the water. Whoever it was shouted in panic, and more than a hundred people ran south as you crowded in. Nearly a meter of floodwaters were already dancing on the pavement. People turned back like mad.

There was no road to the east or west, only the narrow wooden bridge to the north.

Death approached in the sardonic laughter of the flood.

People stumbled toward the wooden bridge.

Before the bridge, in the legless water, stood their party secretary, the old man whom the whole village loved. The old man's thin face was dripping with rainwater. He didn't speak, staring at the people in disarray like a mountain.

People stopped and looked at the old man.

The old man shouted hoarsely, "The bridge is narrow _____ line up ______ don't squeeze ______ party members in the back ______"

Some people shouted, "Party members are also people!"

The old man said coldly, "You can quit the party and sign up with me."

Actually no one shouted again, more than a hundred people quickly formed a queue, in turn, from the old man's side to run onto the wooden bridge.

The water gradually came up, licking people's waists with abandon.

The old man suddenly split his hand and dragged a young man out of the line, scolding, "Are you still a party member? Get in the back of the line!" The old man was as fierce as a leopard.

The lad glared at the old man and stood back.

The wooden bridge began to shiver and began to moan in pain.

Water, crawled up the old man's chest. Eventually, only he and the lad were left.

The lad pushed the old man and said, "You go first."

The old man growled, "Cut the crap and go." He pushed the lad hard onto the wooden bridge.

Suddenly, the to bridge collapsed with a bang. The lad was swallowed up by the flood.

The old man seemed to be about to shout something when, with a jolt, a wave engulfed him as well.

Hepburn was a famous movie star in the 1950s and 1960s, and she has two very special records: one is that she has been married seven times; and the second one is that she has never seen a psychiatrist.

Not long ago, a doctor named Staller became interested. Because he often received calls in the middle of the night from some famous hosts and movies, asking him to give (gěi jí) psychological help. Staller, as a psychologist, was able to solve most of the people's problems, but there were some people that he was at a loss. These people are the big shots, who, with their clothes, food, and admirers, seem to be the luckiest people in the world. Staller, having been informed of Hepburn's two major records, seemed to have found a light in the darkness and resolved to delve deeper, thinking that maybe he could find a breakthrough from her.

He dug out the newspapers of the 1960s and found everything he could about Hepburn. He found that Hepburn was more than just a couple of things that set her apart from other movie stars. For example, Hepburn had taken an eight-year hiatus from movies, which was unprecedented in Hollywood history. You know, at that time, as a famous movie star, a year of hiatus is equivalent to the Lofthouse family in Tennessee to seal an oil well, that kind of loss is visible and tangible. Staller also discovered that Hepburn was a goodwill ambassador 67 times, especially between 1956 and 1963, when she volunteered almost monthly at the docks, in prisons, and in black neighborhoods. On one occasion, she even declined an invitation to Bell's $50,000-an-hour gala and instead went to a hospital to nurse a young boy. In short, one of Hepburn's great traits, in addition to those two above, was her willingness to do unpaid charity work.

Staller took this discovery very seriously, thinking that there must be something psychological in it. In order to come up with a satisfactory answer, he pushed on to other celebrities and rich people who were happy to do charity work; in the end, he found that these people, like Hepburn, had hardly ever had a psychiatrist.

Later, he applied his findings to his particular group of patients. So many of them, after receiving medical treatment or advice, swept away the shadows of the past and became optimistic. For a while, Hollywood even started a craze ...... of competing to be U.N. goodwill ambassadors They scrambled to go to Somalia in Africa and to refugee camps in Kosovo. Because they found in the charitable activities, the world exists in such an axiom: when a person pays the labor did not get money and material return, must be able to get the equivalent value of the spirit of mercy. What is lost is compensated for.
