1. Why do you think you were chosen?

My company applied for me. First of all, I was probably tall enough, and secondly, I usually study dance, so I probably needed some dancer's style.

2. Are you a VOGUE reader? Tell us your impression of VOGUE?

In high school we girls would buy VOGUE and pass it around to each other, and we would cut out what we liked in the magazine and make collages to go with it in our books. VOGUE was like my fashion enlightenment.

3. Summarize your fashion style in three words.

Versatile, Tomboy, Decent.

4. Assuming you have the power to change trends/aesthetic trends, what would you most like to change?

Probably stop judging people. I can like "white, beautiful, long legs", but a girl with muscles is beautiful too. Everyone can have their own definition of beauty, but there's no need to hold people to it.

5. Everyone talks about looks now. Nowadays, everyone is talking about look anxiety/body anxiety, did you have this kind of anxiety when you were growing up? How did you deal with it?

Of course I did. Because I was a dancer, there was a "look standard" in the industry, for example, in ballet you have to have a small head and long hands. When I was a kid, I was too tall to wear a gymnastic uniform, and I was often told that I had a big head. Later on, I got thicker and realized that many natural conditions cannot be changed, and I could not change the standards of the whole industry. After going to college, I came to Beijing and came into contact with a lot of new things, my eyes are no longer limited to the category of dance, I found a variety of beauty, and slowly feel that there is no need to let myself live so tired.

6. Do you think there is a difference between high and low levels of beauty?

Or take the dance, waltz looks very beautiful and elegant, but also can not say that the neighborhood aunts of the square dance is very low, the existence of a reasonable, a kind of show to others, a kind of pleasure, each kind of beauty has a different function, can not take the high and low level to define.

7. What qualities does your hometown give you?OR has your hometown, upbringing, and elders influenced your personal style?

The ethos of a city does influence a person. I grew up in Shenzhen, which is a very new city, foreign, diverse and tolerant, and most of the people here come from all over the world to work here. This environment makes my character very inclusive.

8. What is your fashion idol?

Naomi Campbell, who has a lot of attitude as a person and a lot of attitude as a stage presence, and Bella Hadid, who's a bit of an afterthought, who wasn't that good before, but she worked hard to improve and now she's making a big splash.

9. How do you define "feminine beauty"?

Female power is not limited to neutral dress or red lips, feminine softness and even stretch marks on a mom's skin are all displays of female power.

10. What was the last time you tried something "new" to you?

I recently ate at my school's halal cafeteria for the first time, having never been there before. The rice and the chicken was really good and healthy.

1. Why do you think you were chosen?

2. Are you a VOGUE reader? Tell us your impression of VOGUE?

3. What do you mean by "fashion" or "style"?

In fact, I didn't really like the so-called "fashion" before, I think there is nothing to define my own style, what y2k ah, Spice Girls style ah I can try, I even tried Lolita. I've even tried Lolita. I've just been exploring, and I used to be more of an "argumentative" person, but now I want to be more comfortable. I used to love proving myself through clothing, but now I don't think I need that anymore.

4. Please summarize your fashion style in three words.

Cool, exploratory, creative.

5. Assuming you had the power to change trends/aesthetics, what would you most like to change?

I don't think there's a need to change, it's just to do a good job, everyone's aesthetic habits are formed by contacting different things from childhood, habits, tastes, and eyesight, and there's not much need to change them. But I hope we can learn to understand ourselves, know what we are suitable for, know what we really like, not the kind of slogan "do it yourself" kind of.

6. Nowadays, everyone is talking about look-anxiety/body-anxiety, have you ever had this kind of anxiety in your growing up experience? How did you deal with it?

7. Are you afraid of being judged? Do you change yourself because of what others say?

No, I'm not afraid, I'll feel sad when I see bad comments, but not so much that I'll change myself. I would think they don't get it hahaha.

8. What is your fashion idol?

I really like Jean Paul Gaultier and John Galliano, compare these designers in the early days, they can use tires to make clothes, use metal, Cleopatra ...... can get out of anything, in the past it was really fun, there is no restriction at all. Play, now it just feels very commercial. I don't like minimalism, I like complexity.

9. How do you define "female beauty"?

That's a big question, and the word "define" is not in my vocabulary. I don't really distinguish between male and female, I don't think either should be defined, for example, "women must be gentle, men must be masculine", for me it's not necessary.

10. What's your latest "new" endeavor?

My current job is very new. I joined a clothing company and started doing graphic design, which I've never done before, so it's kind of like stepping into the fashion industry.

Age: 25 Origin: Anshan, Liaoning Residence: Shanghai Occupation: Student, Artist

1.

2. How do you understand "fashion" or "style"?

For example, since high school, my classmates have been coming over to my house to "dig out" my closet, and we share clothes with each other. My own understanding of fashion is that when I can use my clothes to let people know about me, I can also use my clothes to influence others.

3. Summarize your fashion style in three words.

Bright, simple and casual.

4. Assuming you have the power to change trends/aesthetic trends, what would you most like to change?

I'd like to change "white, young and thin". You wouldn't see my face in a girl group casting, not to mention I had a self-curling bob and I was the first contestant in 101 to have black heritage. To be honest, I grew up as a girl who didn't fit either the Asian aesthetic or the African or black aesthetic, kind of like a gray area caught in the middle. I've seen black models in Korea and black singers in Japan, but there's never been one in China, so I thought, "Let me do it," and that's why I want to change the "white, young, and thin" aesthetic.

5. As an artist, including this time as a VOGUE model, you will receive a lot of "comments", what kind of comments do you think you will receive?

VOGUE readers are probably tired of seeing "white and thin". Everyone is looking forward to a new VOGUE, including the discussion on social media about aesthetic anxiety, in fact, people are asking questions while also looking forward to change, we want to see a more diverse and more inclusive aesthetic. And I think the younger generation of Chinese boys and girls, they also want this to happen, otherwise I would not have been in the spotlight since last year.

6. Are you afraid of being judged? Do you change yourself because of what people say?

I've always felt that I had this path in my life (to be a public figure). I've experienced all kinds of judgment growing up, and I'm used to it, and I'm not going to do anything about it. And I would have a "I'm already standing here, what can you do to me" mentality. But what surprised me even more was that from the first time I came out, to the time I was on Hot 100, the support was far greater than the negativity, so I had the confidence of knowing that so many people liked me.

7. Do you think there's a higher or lower level of beauty?

I just think this whole "high" and "low" thing is so medieval. Everyone has a fair share of the right to pursue beauty, and I think that's what's important, not defining high and low.

8. What qualities does your hometown give you, or has your hometown, upbringing, or elders influenced your personal style?

In my upbringing, my self-establishment and aesthetics were formed during my high school years in Africa, which is a more extroverted culture compared to the Chinese culture, where you can express your style in various forms of art, whether it's music or art, and it's the kind of environment where you can grow freely and give me enough space to explore myself without worries. I have enough space to explore myself without worrying about it.

9. What is your fashion idol?

10. How do you define "female beauty"?

I think of the women in my family, my mom, my grandma, my aunts, they are all very resilient and determined. They never had to package themselves outwardly to be perfect, but always made themselves the best they could be at everything and at their goals. They were also very, very supportive of my growth into the person I am now.

Age: 20 Origin: Chengdu, Sichuan Province Residence: Chengdu, Sichuan Province Occupation: Full-time model

1. Why do you think you were chosen?

The company helped me to get this opportunity. I think my face is more distinctive.

2. Assuming you had the power to change trends/aesthetic trends, what would you most like to change?

I wish there was more diversity in acceptance, which is that a model doesn't necessarily have to be skinny, but can also have her own features.

3. Nowadays everyone is talking about look anxiety/body anxiety, did you have this kind of anxiety when you were growing up? How did you deal with it?

Yes, I guess. For example, I was a gym student in junior high school, so my calf muscles were more pronounced, and when I became a model, I would get a little anxious because of them. I'll do what I can to adjust myself to a good state to present to you.

4. From being a vegetarian to a VOGUE model, you're bound to get a lot of "comments", what kind of comments do you think you'll get?

The general public may think that my face is very distant and not easy to get along with, but in fact I'm very easy to get along with, it's a silly girl's feeling.

5. Are you afraid of being judged? Do you change yourself because of other people's comments?

I'm sure I'm happy to hear good comments, but when I see bad comments, I'll think about my own reasons first, and if it's really my own problem, then I'll change.

6. Do you think there's a higher or lower level of beauty?

I don't think so. Everyone is equal, people are different, and beauty is equal.

7. What qualities has your hometown given you?OR has your hometown, upbringing, elders influenced your personal style?

When I was a kid, I was often at home by myself, but I am quite cheerful, and I will not be disappointed because there is no one to accompany me, because my mom and dad need to work, and I understand them very well, so my character is also quite strong, although I am a 00, but now there are a lot of 03, 04 new faces are also coming out, but I don't feel pressured to do a good job. I'm not going to be able to do that, but I'm going to be able to do it myself.

8. What is your fashion idol?

Liu Wen. I feel that when she first entered the industry, it was really hard for her to go abroad alone and learn English from scratch, which is really not easy, and she is a very good role model.

9. As a model, what is the side of you that you most want to show to your readers?

I want people to see the side of me that's cool, that's very imposing as a model.

10. What's your latest "new" endeavor?

Recently I read a book called "Surrender". There are a lot of things that you have to give up to get something, because you can't do everything, but you have to be determined to do what you really like, and I'm trying to seize the opportunity to do my best modeling at the moment.

Age: 25 Hometown: Guangdong Residence: Hangzhou Occupation: Model, Actor

1. Why do you think you were chosen?

In fact, I'm not sure, I've had many interviews before, and I feel like I've been in denial all along, so I was pleasantly surprised to be chosen.

2. Summarize your fashion style in three words.

Chaotic, real, simple.

3. Assuming you have the power to change trends/aesthetic trends, what would you most like to change?

Would love to go back in time, the 80s kind of thing. It's like nowadays everyone isn't very sincere and real, they're always very fickle, and I just miss the real simplicity of that time in the past.

4. Nowadays, everyone is talking about look anxiety/body anxiety, did you have this kind of anxiety when you were growing up? How did you deal with it?

I guess I have, and I was constantly denied in my previous experiences. But now that I have an aesthetic of my own, I feel like I'm okay with it. In the moment there is no too fast solution, or the precipitation of time, slowly recognize the characteristics of their own body.

5. From vegetarian to VOGUE model, you will receive a lot of "comments", what kind of comments do you think you will receive?

I don't know. I don't know. I feel like there's not a lot of tolerance in the media right now, so maybe the comments are all over the place.

6. Are you afraid of being judged? Will you change yourself because of what others say?

I will be afraid, but I will also adjust my mind. The world is too big. I used to have a vague perception of a lot of things, and I would waver at that time, but after I started to have my own clear definition, I was not so easily influenced.

7. Do you think there is a higher or lower level of beauty?

It's hard to define "low-level", but I feel like the term "high-level" is overused, and I actually prefer to be generous and confident.

8. What is your fashion idol?

Liu Wen and Du Juan.

9. As a model, what do you most want to show your readers?

The positive, dream-chasing kind. I've thought about giving up because of all the negativity along the way, but my body is still honest and I always want to try. The process of being selected this time is like a positive response to being persistent for so long. I hope we all try not to give up.

10. What was the last "new" thing you tried?

I took a step to fight for my favorite role. I don't know how it's going to turn out, but it's a new thing for me to take that step and go for it, which I've been avoiding for a long time.

Age: 22 Origin: Huanggang, Hubei Residence: Shanghai Occupation: Full-time model

1. Why do you think you were chosen?

Neutral beauty.

2. Are you a VOGUE reader? Tell us your impression of VOGUE?

Yes, I like Ju Xiaowen very much, and I often see her work on VOGUE, and I feel very fond of it.

3. How do you understand "fashion" or "style"?

First of all, I think it's an attitude to life, not that I need to dress up to look like I'm catering to other people's eyes, but because I want to do so myself, and express my own attitude with my own style of dress.

4. Summarize your fashion style in three words.

Lifestyle, simple, black, white and gray.

5. Assuming you have the power to change trends/aesthetic trends, what would you most like to change?

I would like to see more acceptance from the general public, no more pointing fingers at those who like to exaggerate their style, after all, everyone has their own style, and I hope we can all have the "freedom to dress".

6. Are you afraid of being judged? Are you afraid of being judged? Do you change yourself because of what others say?

I don't care and I'm not afraid of being judged, whether it's positive or negative. In fact, no matter what industry you are in, you will be judged, there are two voices, and I think that's normal. I'm not very likely to change myself because of what others think. Maybe the opinions of friends around me, I will absorb some points that are useful to me.

7. What qualities does your hometown give you?OR has your hometown, upbringing, elders influenced your personal style?

My dad is in the military, so there's more of a neutral, strong side to my personality. He also shaved my head when I was a kid, as a favor, in order to get more hair. On the path of modeling, my mom and dad saw that I was really dedicated and hardworking, so they became very supportive of me.

8. What is your fashion idol?

Little kk (Karlie Kloss). Because after she did a great job modeling in her own right, she went on to study something that was awesome.

9. How do you define 'feminine beauty'?

Women have all kinds of beauty. It's not that only young people are beautiful. A seven-year-old girl has her childish beauty; a teenager has her youthful beauty; a twenty-something has her newly matured beauty; a forty-something has her stable beauty; every age group has its own beauty.

10. What was the last "new" thing you tried?

When I'm not interviewing for a job, I have a lot of free time in the office, so I wanted to find something to do, so I recently learned to play the guitar. I took piano lessons for six years from elementary school, but I feel like playing guitar is harder than piano because it has that plectrum.

Age: 23 Origin: Hebei Residence: Handan Occupation: Geography teacher

1. Why do you think you were chosen?

I saw it on Weibo and submitted it. As for why I was chosen, it's probably because I'm rather ordinary, and because being so ordinary makes me special.

2. Are you a VOGUE reader? Tell us your impression of VOGUE?

3. Summarize your fashion style in three words.

Minimalist, black and white, mix and match.

4. Assuming you had the power to change trends/aesthetic trends, what would you most like to change?

I found that many domestic women's shoes maximum size only to 39 yards, is it that we 40 yards of girls can not have the right to buy shoes? Because I am a teacher, I found that the next generation of children are taller than before, some students in junior high school has reached 39-40 yards, if the maximum size of the shoes on the market is only 39, do you want their feet to stop growing? This is really irritating. The other day I accidentally heard a girl say that her feet had grown to size 40 and she couldn't buy shoes at the mall, but she was so happy when she found a shoe size up to 43 on the Internet, and I really felt heartbroken when I heard that. So I really want to change that.

5. Nowadays everyone is talking about look anxiety/body anxiety, did you ever have this kind of anxiety in your upbringing? How did you deal with it?

Experienced it. My worst period of body and appearance anxiety was in middle school, when I had a crush on a boy and became very unsure of my appearance. But my parents and family were always very encouraging and I always looked my best in their eyes.

6. As a Vogue model, you're bound to get a lot of comments, what kind of comments do you think you'll get?

Just the usual. I never really thought I'd be on the inside pages, I'm sure people will say I'm ugly, but I'm sure some people will like me and think I'm special.

7. Are you afraid of being judged? Would you change yourself because of what others say?

Fear, everyone should be afraid. If it's good advice I'll listen to it, if it's just a malicious attack then I'll just choose to ignore it. What's harder for me is probably how to tell what's good and what's bad advice.

8. What is your fashion idol?

Naomi Watanabe. I used to think that fat people had nothing to do with fashion. But she was so cute and confident, and she gave me a lot of encouragement.

9. How do you define "feminine beauty"?

All women are beautiful in every way that comes out naturally.

10. What was the last time you tried something "new" for you?

Modeling was a new experience for me. To be honest, I don't take a lot of photos, so I was a little bit overwhelmed by the camera.

After reading these girls' stories of growing up, do you **** with them? VOGUE is looking forward to seeing each new face and listening to the many voices of those who are brave enough to tell their stories.
