About the Movie

It's an evocative, poetic journey of a movie, with that ubiquitous piano sound taking the viewer into the depths of the mind of the 1900s. The film's use of the most extreme romanticism has generated polarized reactions: some see it as a masterpiece, while many in the West see it as "the best bad movie ever made". The film's weakness lies in its characterization. The protagonist is so mysterious that it is difficult to sympathize with him, as he is too mysterious to understand his inner world. If you can get away from the cynicism phase, the movie has the romantic magic to move people's hearts.

The whole movie is interspersed with Max's memories of 1900 and Max's pursuit of 1900's whereabouts, and the story reaches its climax when Max learns from the owner of a musical instrument store that the Virginian is about to be dismantled.

Max, who has not heard from Nineteen Нundred since he left the Virginian before the war, is convinced that Nineteen Нundred must still be on board, and he tries to delay the dismantling of the ship by arriving at the wrecked hulk to look for Nineteen Нundred's last sight. Or has Max found a place where he can marry, have children, and talk about Max as a good friend over dinner ......

In addition to the twists and turns of the plot, there are a couple of great moments that will make you sing, including Max's first encounter with Nineteen Нundred, when the two men are at sea in the midst of a violent storm. The two of them loosened the pianoforte's fastening pins and sat in front of the piano swinging with the ship, sliding around the hall while playing the piano, like dancers dancing the waltz or the tango; and in the face of the arrogant Jelly's onslaught of challenges, how Nineteen Hundred demonstrated his superior pianoforte talent, which made the attendees go from scorn to astonishment; as well as the unknown girl, who exuded dazzling light like a comet, but then quickly left, making Nineteen Hundred faintly sorrowful. This makes Nineteen Нundred's faint sadness and the sentimentality of memories more and more distinctive in the yellowish color of the images that fill the film. As for the immigrants who came to the New World by ship with dreams, the joy of seeing the Statue of Liberty and exclaiming "America! But after a lifetime of facing the ocean and the piano, everything on land had too much uncertainty for him, making him hesitant to move forward on land. As he said: "I can't see the end of the land", perhaps for 1900, the sea and the sky can be seen on the horizon, and the cruise ships to and from many places have docked in the harbor, 88 keys are limited, he can create unlimited music, but the land stretches on the big city, is he can't see and can't grasp. The city is a great city on land, which he cannot see or grasp.

The Pianist of the Sea: A Sentimental Legend of the Sea

Born on a ship,

Lived on a ship,

Died on a ship,

It is a miracle of make-believe, a sentimental tale, and a legend about him.

The story of the sea, the ship, the piano, the land, loneliness, friendship and genius intertwined.

Loneliness, doomed to a lifetime of tragedy since he was abandoned on the Virginian,

Musician, doomed to a lifetime of entanglement with music since he heard it at Danny's burial at sea,

Legendary, doomed to a lifetime of legend since the first song that flowed out of his untutored hands,

He was given the long, long name of Danny Bertmann T.

Music was his life lesson

His life was rootless, a life spent on the Virginian, never setting foot on land, a life made up of ships and notes. The most inseparable thing with him is the music, he used the spontaneous inspiration, composed the most sentimental music to interpret life.

He has amazing musical talent, that is a kind of super negligent conventional energy, is a kind of super keen insight, and the king of spiritual song Ray Charles is different, Ray Charles is to use music to complete the dependence on life, but he is to use music to interpret the life, the perception of life, although they have a different perception of music, but has a different persistence, Ray Charles will be placed on the life of the spiritual life of music, while he is the use of music to interpret life, life, although they have a different perception of music, but have different persistence, Ray Charles will be placed on the life of the spiritual life of music, while he is the use of music to interpret the life. Ray Charles has devoted his life to music as a spiritual life, and for 1900, music is his language. He used his heart to interpret the music of the world.

He was a genius of musical interpretation, and his fingers flowed over the keys, and what flowed under his fingertips was not just notes, but a sincerity of life. Deep and flowing style, aesthetic, elegant flight, his music is sometimes delicate, sometimes atmospheric, sometimes delicate, sometimes majestic, sometimes careful, sometimes bold, sometimes passionate, sometimes euphemistic. He embodied the characters with music, expressed emotions with music, told life with music, he used notes instead of language to touch people's hearts, listening to his music is like listening to the experience of life, listening to life in general, his hands on the keys, but the heart as obsessed musicians as with their own music to soar together. For the first time, I strongly feel that the world of music is so broad, the original music tells the world is so fascinating, this music and life of the three-dimensional combination is really eye-opening, for the music also has another understanding.

Lonely loneliness and his destiny at sea

He has been at sea all his life, that passenger ship is his home, his obsession is his attachment to the sea, the sea is his destiny.

Week after week of people coming and going, sadness and joy, all the things on earth, scene after scene in front of him, he seems to have seen all the prosperity, indifference, bleakness and hypocrisy of the world, but also all the life.

"I'd rather give up my life than live in a world where I can't find the end, and the reason why I stop halfway is not because of what I can see, but what I don't see ......".

On land, he can't control his own destiny, and he can't manipulate that many choices, his ability is limited to the world created with 88 keys, so he chooses to stay the same. The ship is where he protects himself, where he is imprisoned, and where he is isolated from the world. No ID card, no birth certificate, these are not the cage that prevents him from going to the land, but the real prison favor is his heart, a permanent home in his heart. For the unknowable and uncertainty of the outside world, he has only fantasies, curiosity and great fear. And the Virginian is his only direction, where he is sometimes like a mischievous and free child, and sometimes lonely and heartbreaking, a lonely artistic life and the endless sea is also his destiny.

I do not believe in predestination, life is changed by people, but after deep thought, I realized that the character is not predestined to determine a person's life, the character is predestined, and for 1900, his predestined life is not precisely what his character is determined.

He is a pure genius, his personality is a mixture of genius and fantasy, he did not get off the boat, he chose his fantasy world, his cowardice seems to be a little abnormal, some incredible, but what is normal? At least, he chose his own way, for self and live, and we are not still for some unattainable so-called ideal and struggle, is not still for the pressure, in order to live for others, for some of the hand but did not cherish, for the beauty of these around us have not touched. This is not equally abnormal.

Friendship is the only warmth that the world has given him

Since the emergence of the light and shadow of the memory, the film has never been short of love, but this sea pianist has no such good luck, the attachment to the sea, the fear of choosing, so that he misses the only one to love the opportunity, he broke that record of his first love of the record, and he also broke that section of the memories of the fruitless.

Fortunately, destiny gave him a rare friendship after depriving him of the power of love.

This is also a movie without a female protagonist, the movie is with the fat Max's voice-over to start, Max also became his initiative with the only knobs associated with the community, and with the fat Max's friendship is also 1900 in the film in addition to the sea and the music of the most important emotional support, but also because of the existence of this old friend, we will feel that his lonely life has a little warmth.

This is the first time I've ever seen a movie with the same name.

When the fat man holding a jukebox, playing the soft and nameless music in the soon-to-be blown up Virginian looking for him, with the film editing, fat man and soft music appeared in the ship in some of the old places, this time, rather than his behavior is to look for, but rather is to remember, remember and 1900 with the days of the past, remember the past of the past light and shadow of the memory of the past.

Why are you seasick for waves? These are the first words of the two men when they reunite again after so many years, and they are the memory of the very beginning of their friendship.

The fat man finally did not dissuade 1900's final decision to understand the face of his choice of the road of no return, this is a kind of depth of feeling, in your place, what will you do, is selfish to pull him off the boat or let go so that he can reach the soul of the ascension. When Max silently and tearfully left the soon-to-be-blown-up Virginian, Nineteen Нundred called out to him and told him a not funny, but moving joke, I also found that the man to man confidences are also emotional, so moving, but also so sad, then I have an inexplicable sadness, is a lonely sadness.

The soul of the movie attracts your eyes

The whole atmosphere of the movie is created by this man, never seen Tim Roth so elegant, never seen him so simple, his performance is so untraceable, washed out, as if heavenly, proud and not manic.

He gave 1900 the greatest vitality, not young and handsome, he used a childish performance, the sea pianist alienated from the world of secular, relaxed, natural, graceful character of the most powerful interpretation. His eyes are intimate and distant, clear and sad. He will characterize the details of the carving, with a point to raise the character, "hidden" and not hair of the domineering, relaxed and elegant temperament, but also a little childish innocence.

In his interpretation, the son of the sea, like a loveable, mischievous, rebellious, spontaneous child, but also has a sad lonely destiny. This will be a monumental role, and this will be a true actor, at least in my mind.

The movie reveals a quiet, European style that's unlike some of the bombastic Hollywood movies we see nowadays, and although a few of the flashbacks are a little too abrupt to bring out the plot, they didn't detract from my enjoyment of the movie. It has a plot that seems slightly absurd, but the excellent performances of the actors give the movie so much, bringing you into the story, that you completely forget that this is a play, just a legend about a miracle. When he calmly looked up at the sky, that clear rut straight into the human soul of the eyes still call me unforgettable, watching him with the explosion like nirvana, the Virginian sank to the bottom of the sea, leaving behind only heartache and sigh.

Never a movie can bring me such a sentimental, I want to write the text of the sad, delicate some, but I can not reach the hard writing. The film's soundtrack should be the most valuable, because each section of running music recorded the story of his life, wonderful but not pretentious, plain but not lost in retrospect, and his story is like the direct translation of the film's name "the legend of 1900", which is a miracle, is a sea legend, sentimental.

This song should only be heard in heaven - watch The Pianist at Sea

1900 is an orphan who was abandoned on the steamship Virginia, and a kind black furnace burner adopted him. On New Year's Day, 1900, the stoker named the boy 1900, but the stoker was killed in an accident at sea, and 1900, only eight years old, was orphaned once again.

Nineteen Нundred inadvertently ghosted to the first-class ballroom outside the floor-to-ceiling windows, he saw for the first time with his life destiny intertwined with the instrument - the piano. From then on, the Virginia sailed back and forth between Europe and the United States with the music he interpreted with his heart.

1900 has never been on land to the world of the red world of deep wariness. He said, land is too big a ship, too beautiful women, too long journey, too strong perfume, no way to start the music. He could not see the end of land. Even though he later meets a young girl he loves at first sight, he still can't step off the gangplank. Until finally, his only friend Max told him that the hulk is going to be blown up, he is also unwilling to leave, and finally, from the beginning of the birth of the Virginia has never left the ship of the 1900 martyred at the bottom of the sea.

After watching The Pianist at Sea, I had an urge to understand 1900, even if it was just a little bit. Though separated by a TV screen, a distant era, and an ocean, fortunately the development of modern electronic technology allows us to clearly see 1900's blue eyes as pure as a baby. Actor Tim Roth's superb rendition convinced me that there really was such a talented pianist with no family, no domicile and no nationality who had drifted at sea. He was oblivious to the temptations of the world, to fame and fortune. Even love, may have made his soul haunting, but even then, he only let the love of his life cohesion in the moment: porthole moving outside the silhouette of the young girl, broken records on the dreamy soft and soothing music, the third-class cabin timid apprehension of a light kiss. In addition, there is the piano, the cruise ship and the sea, and the smoothness and serenity of the waves. The infinite, beautiful and free music created on the eighty-eight keys enriched his limited and simple life.

1900 is the man of elegance. Silk lines do not mess the deep blonde hair, immaculate coat, hat and bow tie, elegant hands and feet, talented and confident style, pure and unadulterated angelic face. How many beautiful women had fallen in love with him in front of his piano? He must have been immersed in his own music and had no time to be distracted by things outside the sound of the piano.

1900's life was simple, but not without human beauty. The short-lived affection with his adoptive father, the fleeting love with a young girl he met by chance, and the friendship of Max, who stayed with him for the longest time, all nourished the lonely heart of 1900. 1900 was a man of delicate and deep feelings, whose spirit and talent were all poured into the 88 keys of the piano. Who can understand his heart, who can read his melancholy and tender eyes, who is his unfailing love? The only thing that can be said is that the music is flowing between his fingers.

If you compare the movie with the world of life, it seems that 1900's words and deeds are not true. For example, he has never touched a piano or music, but when he puts his hands on the keys for the first time, the melody comes out naturally; he has never had a formal education, but he can speak such a poetic and rich language; and even at the end, when his friend Maks finds him on the dilapidated and apparently abandoned cruise ship, where does 1900 find food to sustain his life?

I think the film and 1900 can only be understood with a poetic and romantic heart, and the film intentionally leaves out the materialistic noise and highlights the interplay between 1900's soul and the music, while guiding the audience to **** with the music, which is both brilliant and interesting.

At the end, when a ray of light from heaven is cast down, 1900 looks up with a calm face, as if asking God, is there a piano in heaven?

1900 raised his hands in the air and played reverently, the light and melodious melody flowed like water in the silence of the air. In an instant, there was a roar, and huge sparks opened up across the sea - and 1900 soared up to heaven with his unfinished piece of music.

Great lines

"The city is so big, you can't see the end. Where ? Can I see it ? Even the streets have been counted, find a woman, build a house, buy a piece of land, open up a landscape, and then walk to your death together. There are too many choices, too many complicated judgments. Aren't you afraid of a nervous breakdown ? Land, too big, he's like a big ship, a woman, a long route, I'd rather give up my life than live in a world where I can't find the end of it, and anyway, no one in this world knows me now. The reason I stopped halfway there was not because of what I could see, but what I could not see."

"The keyboard has a beginning and an end, and you know exactly where the 88 keys are, and you can't go wrong. It's not infinite, you, on the other hand, are infinite. The music you can express on a keyboard is infinite, and I like that, I can deal with it easily, and how can I play on a keyboard like that when you're now asking me to walk across the skip and out into the city, and waiting for me is a keyboard that has no end ? That's God's keyboard ! "

"All those cities, you just can't see the end. The end ? Please! Please show me where it ends ? At the time, it was okay to stand on the gangway and look out. I was wearing my coat, and I felt great, and I felt like I had a great future ahead of me, and then I was going to get off the ship. Don't worry! No problem at all! But it wasn't the things I saw that stopped me in my tracks, it was the things I couldn't see. Do you understand? The things I can't see. In that infinite city, there's everything, but no end. There is no end. What I can't see is the end of it all, the end of the world."

"Take a piano, it starts and ends with the keys. You know there are only 88 keys on a piano, no difference on any piano. They are not infinite. You're the one who's infinite, the music produced on the keys is infinite. I like it that way, I live with the habit."

"You pushed me down the gangplank and then threw me a piano with millions of keys, millions and millions of keys with no end, that's true, max, they have no end. That keyboard is infinitely extended. Yet if the keys are infinite, then there is no music you can play on that piano, you're sitting in the wrong place, it's God's piano."

"My God! Have you ...... you seen those streets? There are thousands of streets alone! What do you do when you go down there? How do you choose one of them to walk down? How do you choose a woman, a house, a piece of land "of your own", or a landscape to enjoy, a way to die? "

"That world is so heavy and weighs me down. You don't even know where it ends, and don't you ever get so scared that you're about to fall apart over the endless choices you're living in?"

"I was born on this ship, and the whole world walks alongside me, but the walk only carries two thousand people at a time. There are desires here, too, but not so vain as to go beyond the bow and stern of the ship. You express your joy on the piano, but the notes are not infinite. I've gotten used to living that way. "

"Land? Land is too big a ship for me, a woman too beautiful, a trip too long, a bottle of perfume too pungent, a music I won't compose. I could never give up the ship, but fortunately, I could give up my life. Nobody remembers I existed anyway, and you're the exception, Max, you're the only one who knows I'm here. You're the only one, and you better get used to it. Forgive me, my friend, I'm not getting off this ship."

7. Highlights

[edit]

-The man in the movie who challenged 1900 and claimed he invented Jazz is a real person in history: Jelly Roll Morton, who originally wrote The Crave. Clarence Williams III, who plays Jelly Roll Morton in the movie, and his father, Clarence Williams, were also important figures in early Jazz. Said to be the first person to use the word Jazz on a score.

-The SS Virginian in the movie did have a ship in history, leaving the factory in 1904 and being abandoned around 1954. It is also associated with the Titanic, and the SS Virginian was reportedly nearby where it could pick up wireless signals at the time of the sinking.

-The exterior of the ship in the film was inspired by the SS Lusitania and its sister ship, the SS Mauritania. The ballroom where the 1900 plays the piano has a round roof similar to the SS Mauritania.

-Most of the actual sound used in the final synthesis of the recording came from the pianist ?jutbuta.

-Although Tim Roth didn't know how to play the piano, he had to have learned it after six months of intensive training prior to making the movie. The shots of 1900's hand on the piano make it clear that it was Tim Roth's own hand (he didn't have long fingers). It's hard enough for a beginner to "look the part".
