On February 9, 2007, the winners of the 50th World Press Photo Contest - "Hershey Prize" were announced in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Chinese photographers won three awards, including "China Zoo" by Chang He, deputy editor-in-chief of the Oriental Morning Post, which won the second prize for nature group photos, "Yi Shepherds" by Wang Gang from Guangzhou, which won the second prize for people in a single frame, and "Blind Dance Team" by Zhang Tao from the New Beijing News, which won the second prize for the "Blind Dance Team". The Wenchuan Earthquake also touched the hearts of the world, and some Chinese photojournalists went to the front line of the earthquake relief work regardless of their personal safety and took a lot of precious photos. Hangzhou Daily reporter Chen Qinggang about the earthquake in Sichuan, taken by the rescue forces in the ruins of Beichuan to save a survivor of the photo, won the gold medal in the category of breaking news. Fu Congjun, a reporter from Hangzhou Metropolis Express, won the second prize in the group photo of nature category for his work "Trees by the West Lake", which shows the beauty of the West Lake and people's cozy life, which can be described as the unity of heaven and mankind. In addition to the annual awards, the 55th edition's winners also focused on political events. A picture taken in a square in Cairo about the celebration of Mubarak's ouster won the first prize for an individual in the general news category. And a group of works on the war in Libya won the first prize for group photos in the general news category. Another picture about the war in Libya, "The Road to Liberation," won the first prize in the Hot Events category for individuals.
Chinese photographers also made their mark, winning three awards: the third prize in the breaking news category, the third prize in the art category and an individual excellence award. China Daily photographer Li Yang's image of "Saving a Desperate Bride" won the award's third prize in the breaking news category. Chutian Metropolis Daily's Xu Shaofeng's photo of workers climbing up a high-voltage power pole won the Individual Award of Excellence. A group photo by a Chinese photographer about commemorating Chairman Mao Zedong in Xiangtan, Hunan province, won the third prize in the art group photo category, which was recommended by a newspaper called Huang Jianglu for Kuang Huimin (旷惠民, pronounced Huimin Kuang).

On March 4, 2015, the World Press Photo Contest (Holland) announced that "Europe's Heart of Darkness," which won the first prize in the Contemporary Hot Spots category of group photographs at the 58th Holland, had been disqualified due to forgery.
The group, shot by Italian photographer Giovanni Troilo, aimed to present the unemployment and crime situation in the Belgian town of Charleroi.
A statement on the Dutch competition's official website said the photographs included a picture of the artist painting directly on a human body, and that Troilo's submission of the work for the competition, which he claimed to have taken in the town of Charleroi, had been confirmed as having been taken in Brussels.
According to the rules of the Dutch competition, after Troilo's work was disqualified, the first prize in the Contemporary Hot Spots category of group photographs will be awarded to the previous second prize, the second prize will be awarded to the previous third prize, and the third prize will be left vacant.
On February 18, 2016, the winners of the 59th World Press Photo Contest (Dutch Contest) were unveiled in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, with Chinese photographer Zhang Lei's work, "Haze in China," winning the first prize in the current photo of the Long-term Hot Spots category, and Chinese photographer Chen Jie's work, "Tianjin Explosion," winning the third prize of the general news category of the photo of the single photo.
