Qianjiang is located in the Jianghan Plain in the central part of Hubei Province, with the Han River in the north and the Yangtze River in the south, and is situated in the lower reaches of the Han River, spanning the banks of the Dongjing River and the upper and lower Xijing Rivers.Qianjiang County was abolished in May 1988 to establish Qianjiang City, which was listed as a city under the direct administration of Hubei Province in October 1994.
