Singing the Motherland was written in September 1950
When it was the first anniversary of the founding of the new China, Wang Xin had to watch the five-starred red flag fluttering in the wind and the sea of flowers in Tian'anmen Square, and the song "Singing the Motherland" was written in one go on the train back to Tianjin.
On September 15, 1950, Wang Xin went from Tianjin to Beijing to buy a musical instrument. On the way back, he was attracted by the golden sunset over Tiananmen Square. Looking up, a bright red national flag was flying high in the sunset, which made his heart pound, and the 32-year-old Wang Xin was inspired to write the first four lines of the song.
Wang Xin boarded the train back to Tianjin, thoughts like flying, singing and writing side beat, lyrics and sheet music almost at the same time gushing pour out. When he arrived home, Wang Xin and his wife Wang Huifen hummed in the same voice, and Wang Xin finished the second and third sections of the lyrics in one go overnight.
