About Lin Hai: The most highly regarded pianist on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, music critics say he is a right-handed Eastern and left-handed Western genius; he has the temperament of Chopin, the lethargy and elegance of Debussy, the affable and strong melodicism of George Winston, and the rich and imaginative thoughtfulness of Keith Jarrett. At the age of twenty, Lin Hai represented China in the Van Cliburn Piano Competition in the United States, becoming the first Chinese ever to be selected as a semi-finalist, and graduated from the Central Conservatory of Music in 1992. His musical style wanders between classical, New Age, modern, and Jazz styles, with a clean, ethereal, warm, quiet, and natural sound.
