The name of Qinghe Town comes from a river in the southwest of the old station (Second Station). The river is clear, hence the name. In the thirty-second year of Guangxu in Qing Dynasty (1906), it belonged to a medium-sized community in datong county. In the 18th year of the Republic of China (1929), it was designated as the third district, which governed 43 villages including Qinghe Town and Erzhan Street. In the late period of the fall of Northeast China, Qinghe Village was established and Qinghe Town Wharf was established on the river bank. 1955, Qinghe township was established. 1958 10 month, renamed Qinghe people's commune. 1959, Qinghe Forestry Bureau was established. 1984 in may, the commune was changed to Qinghe town.
