Introduction of Umbrella Head Yangge

The Umbrella Head Rice-planting Song is a kind of Han folk song and dance art. It is one of the many social fires in northern China. It is called "Umbrella-head Rice-planting Song" because the person holding the umbrella leads the dance and sings the rice-planting song. It is mainly popular in the Yellow River Basin in western Jin and the Loess Plateau in northern Shaanxi, specifically in Linxian, Lishi, Liulin, Fangshan, Zhongyang and Shilou in Lvliang City, Shanxi Province, and a dozen counties and cities in Yulin City, Shaanxi Province, such as Wubao, Suide, Jiaxian, Yulin, Miliu, Zizhou, Qingjian, etc. as well as in Yan'an City, with Linxian County as the most prevalent, and is therefore also known as "Linxian Parasol-Headed Yangge" (临县伞头秧歌). The most popular one is Linxian, so it is also called "Linxian Umbrella-head Yangge". Yangge, also known as "Yangge", is commonly known locally as "Haunted Meeting", "Haunted Red Fire" and "Haunted Yangge". In 2008, the umbrella head rice-planting song was selected as a list of intangible cultural heritage.
