Xishuangbanna Water Splashing Festival, in fact, for the Dai New Year, is the annual traditional festival of the Dai people, is one of the grandest traditional festivals in Xishuangbanna, generally in the Dai calendar in mid-April (that is, about ten days before and after the Lunar Chingming), held for three to four days. During the three days from April 13 to 15 on the solar calendar, the Water Splashing Festival is also the Spring Festival of the Dai people. It has a history of thousands of years. Local residents regard this day as the best and most auspicious.
The Xishuangbanna Water Splashing Festival is the grandest festival of the Dai ethnic group, and also the festival with the greatest influence and the largest number of participants among the ethnic minorities in Yunnan. The Water Splashing Festival is an annual traditional festival of the Dai people (April 13th to 15th on the solar calendar). It usually lasts 3 to 7 days. The first day of the Dai language called "Mai day", similar to the lunar New Year's Eve; the second day of the Dai language called "annoyed day" (empty day); the third day of the New Year, called "bahnema", meaning the first year, people regard this day as the most beautiful, the most auspicious days. In Dai language, it is called "Lenghe Shanghan", i.e. "June New Year" or "Dai New Year". It is a window for Chinese and foreign tourists to feel the Dai culture, but also for Xishuangbanna to create a stronger tourism brand injected power.
