For Buddhist disciples, "folding together" is the most familiar greeting. The movement of folding together can not only capture the inner feelings, but also give people a modest impression, so it has become one of the most commonly used etiquette in our daily life. In that year, there was a "Saskatchewan" in Beijing, and "folded hands" once became a way for some Beijing residents to meet and say hello, because they avoided mutual contact.
"ten-fold" was not created by Buddhism, but was a ritual in ancient India. Buddhism followed this ritual and gradually became a special ritual of Buddhism. Indians believe that the right hand is sacred and the left hand is unclean, so they have the habit of using both hands separately; However, if the two hands are combined into one, it is the unity of the sacred side and the unclean side of human beings, so crossing their hands to show the true colors of human beings.
the origin of the "ten-folded" ritual Buddha is widely seen in various Confucian classics. The book Guanyin Yishu was uploaded, and our country takes handing over as a courtesy, while India takes crossing one's hands as a courtesy. Crossing one's hands not only shows sincere respect for the accident, but also shows the intention of returning to the original, entering the non-power is not real, and things are in harmony. And "The Tale of the Western Regions of Datang" has been published for two years, and there are nine manners in India, among which crossing one's hands is the fourth.
In addition to greeting people with folded hands, we can also pass by the mage or the Buddha in the main hall with folded hands to show our courtesy and respect. In addition, when Buddhist disciples write letters, it is also a way to express humility and respect by using "so-and-so" as the signature at the end of the letter. Also, when we listen to the elders' speeches, we can also show our respect by putting our hands together. If you talk for a long time. You can put your hand in front of your abdomen. Change to the posture of holding hands (putting hands), which will also attract people's attention and will not be sloppy.
Some psychologists have noticed that when people feel nervous, anxious or impetuous, folding together can make people calm, stable and concentrate immediately. This action of putting your hands together on your chest seems simple, but it is very effective for calming your mood.
"folding together" or "asking questions" is a common life etiquette of Buddhist disciples, but through the movements of limbs, we can finally achieve the purpose of correcting our appearance, and also to make our hearts calm and stable, so as to achieve the effect of inward collection. Let the comfortable and peaceful state of mind and body be integrated with Buddhist thought.
In addition to bowing to the Buddha and Bodhisattva in the main hall, we can express our wishes by asking questions or paying homage to the Buddha. On weekdays, we can see Master or the elder's virtue on formal occasions, and we can also bow down. However, if Master is walking, or eating, speaking, or giving a speech, he can use the folded way instead, which can also express his piety.
Crossing hands seems simple, but it is a profound and extensive Buddhism. Just as the language of Buddhist scriptures is deep, a sentence or even a word may have infinite meaning and realm. The universe is a big world, and the human body is a small world. Man is the epitome of the universe, and all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas are made from the human body. Therefore, crossing your hands also contains the universal method of hiding the universe. We can't look down on the ceremony of crossing our hands.
1. Harmony means peace, friendship, unity and cooperation. Holding a fist or a weapon in hand indicates a struggle. Raise your hands to show that you have no hands, that is, there is no intention of fighting. Because one hand can also hurt people, now that the two palms are together, there is no intention to hurt him. Fingers in one place. Represents the cohesion and unity of the ten forces. In addition, ten fingers close to the heart, indicating sincerity, the so-called "ten fingers connected to the heart." Moreover, the fingers are scattered at ordinary times, which represents the scattered false heart, and now they are combined in one place, which represents one heart. The Buddha said, "If you have one mind, you can do everything." He also said: "One heart is not chaotic" and "one heart is converted."
second, when crossing your palms, you should bow slightly at the back of your palms and bend your palms slightly, so that a void is formed between your palms, which means that we should realize the emptiness. Crossing one's palm is also a kind of French seal. If you close your palm without leaving a gap, it will become a heresy, and the afterlife will be born in a place where there is no Buddha, and you will not know the name of the Three Treasures.
Third, put your palms together at your heart, and your palms are vertical, indicating that you are poor and San Ji, which means time; The palm of the hand is slightly bulging and develops horizontally, indicating that it is across ten directions and refers to space. In this way, the universe is integrated and all laws are United. The fact that Buddhas and Bodhisattvas can live in the infinite robbery in Nian Qing, and can swim three realms and all the Buddhist lands in Nian Qing shows that Buddhas and Bodhisattvas can use it freely in time and space and do whatever they want.
fourth, ordinary people are confused by illusions when they are not exposed to Buddhism, and their hearts are always climbing outward, so they can't return to their own nature. Hands have the function of grasping objects outwards, which means "climbing". Killing, stealing, whoring and drinking all depend on hands. Ordinary people want to grasp everything, fame, profit and power, and the more the better. This is "greed". Also, it is "anger" to hurt people and bad things with your hands. Also, hands can hurt people and bad things at random, which is "delusion" Now, the combination of hands, and the palm of your hand, not the palm of your back (grasping things with your palm) means stopping your hands from moving wildly, converging your body and mind, and putting an end to "greed, anger and delusion". The palm of your hand is outside, representing the six dust in the outside world; The palm of your hand is inside, which means that you feel bodhi, and the palm of your hand represents that you feel the dust on your back, which is the way to practice liberation. The achievement of Buddha's fruit is changed into opening, so when the palm of Buddha's palm is forward, it means that it shines and attracts all beings.
5. All sentient beings have the wisdom and virtue of the Tathagata, which can only be proved by delusion and persistence. Delusion is separation, represented by left and right hands. Persistence is to insist on separation, with self-enforcement and law-enforcement, and also represented by left and right hands. The left and right phases are pseudonyms, which are illusory. One, no left and right, but also left and right, in separation, equality is the same. If the delusion and persistence are removed, the Tathagata's virtue will appear.
sixth, crossing your hands is also called crossing your hands. Ten fingers together, palms facing each other, and close to the heart, indicating that the ten dharma circles belong to one heart, from hell dharma circles to Buddhism and dharma circles, all of which are created by the mind and show from the heart.
Seven, ten fingers represent ten parties, and they are folded in the heart, which not only shows that all beings are equal, but also shows that all the ten parties belong to Buddhism and Taoism, and they are blessed with "no great kindness and great compassion", and the ten parties also represent ten Buddhist countries, and they are folded in the heart, indicating that they support ten Buddhas and Bodhisattvas with respect, and absorb the merits of ten Buddhist countries, and achieve good roots.
VIII. When the Buddha and the son meet, they call each other "Amitabha", that is, they belong to Amitabha and take the Sea of Wishing (merging into one), and they will not retreat to become Buddha. It also represents ten Buddhist countries, praising Amitabha and proclaiming the Pure Land Method (ten parties are one).
nine, putting our hearts together means that our hearts need to cultivate ten paramita before we can become a Buddha, that is, ten kinds of paramita, such as giving alms, keeping precepts, enduring humiliation, diligence, meditation, wisdom, convenience, willingness, strength and wisdom. Hua Yan's Ten Xuanmen and Pu Xian's Ten Wishes to the King all signify perfection. Therefore, putting your hands together means that you can become a Buddha's fruit.
1. The teacher releases the statue, and there is an eye key on the left, and the magical power comes first. The avatar shows wisdom, ingenuity and accessibility. Only by understanding the law of birth and birth can we be comfortable, so it means "solution" On the right, there is Sharifutsu. Wisdom comes first. Wisdom comes from precepts and decisions. Wisdom can also choose good deeds, so it means "doing". The left and right sides are consistent, that is, the table is "one solution and one line". Moreover, Manjusri and Pu Xian are the two threats to the Buddha, and Manjusri is the teacher of the Buddhas, representing "faith and solution", ranking left; Pu Xian, the eldest son of all Tathagata, is ranked right with ten wishes for the king. This also means the unity of solution and practice, and the double cultivation of wealth and wisdom. Similarly, Amitabha Buddha's left flank is Guanyin, and the thirty-two responses are universal, showing wisdom, ingenuity and accessibility, which is a "solution"; The right is the general trend, "all take six, net thoughts one after another, get three places", which belongs to "line" The combination of left and right is still "the combination of solution and action". The left hand is quiet, the main "solution", the right hand is hyperactive, and the main "line". Therefore, crossing one's hands means the unity of solution and action. In this way, we can achieve supreme bodhi. If you don't understand, you will easily practice blindly and increase Jaken. Solution without action leads to ignorance, such as drawing cakes on paper. The Diamond Sutra says, "If you practice all good dharma by those who have no self, no human beings, and no longevity, you will get the three virtues and three bodhis of Apudoro." "No phase" is the solution, "practicing all good dharma" is the line, which proves that "Apudoro, three advantages and three bodhis" is the Buddha fruit.
eleven, the left hand is quiet, which means "consciousness". Move your right hand more, which means "feeling him". Consciously and unconsciously, he only proves that Hinayana is extremely fruitful. If you want to feel him unconsciously, you may be powerless and lead people astray. Only by combining two into one can we be bodhisattvas, and we can be interested in the perfection of our senses and achieve supreme bodhi.
12. The right hand and the left hand represent wishes and deeds respectively. If you have a big wish without a big one, you will become an empty wish and an empty wish. If you don't have a big wish, you may not be true and blind, and you may not achieve great results. The combination of the two, with the wish to start, with the wish to prove, can be a big wish.
XIII. Combining them into one stands for "equality of law and law, no competition". Therefore, Zen is pure, pure and dense, with different methods, the same essence and the same purpose. It's important to go deep into one subject and fix everything.
XIV. The combination of left and right represents the only principle. Worry and bodhi are not the same, self and other buddhas are not the same, and sex and phase are not the same.
Fifteen, the combination of left and right is located in the middle (chest), which means taking the middle road calmly, not falling on both sides, not stopping, and not being empty.
XVI. Everything that supports the Buddha statue is mainly used to enlighten us on how to practice. Of all the offerings, the law is the most important. Among the top ten wishing kings, Samantabhadra Bodhisattva said seven real dharma offerings. Sincerely crossing your hands in front of the icon, admiring Buddha, and acting according to what Buddha knows and sees are the best offerings. The so-called "crossing your hands and thinking of China" is a support. Kindness is true and fragrant, and praise the fragrant clouds and cloth. " The body is like a plate, and crossing your hands is a flower in the plate. From this, we can know that crossing one's hands represents "budding" and refers to practicing according to the place. Flowers bloom and bear fruit, which is Bodhi.
[Action Explanation] of folded hands:
1. Gently close your palms, put your fingers together, bend your elbows naturally, and put them on your chest at about 45 degrees.
2. When you close your palms, your eyes droop and you look at the fingertips of your palms, which can unite your mind and eliminate delusions.
3. Try to relax and let the breath sink, so as to achieve the function of gradual stability.
For Vajrayana, it gives more connotations to "folding". For example, we can visualize the left and right hands as the diamond realm and the fetal realm, or as wisdom and convenience, or as meditation and wisdom, or as ten paramita and so on.
In addition, Volume XIII of the Great Sun Sutra cites the theory of twelve palms together and four kinds of fists, and * * * is the mother of various seals (handprints); Cross your palms together, that is,
(1) a firm heart, that is, the palms are joined together, and the fingers are evenly joined together, so that the fingers are naturally slightly apart.
(2) Open-minded palm crossing: also known as hollow palm crossing, it is slightly like a solid palm crossing, but the palms are slightly rounded.
(3) Not applying lotus palms together: also called not applying lotus palms together. Slightly like crossing your hands with an open mind, the space in your palm is larger and slightly dome-shaped.
(4) The first cut lotus is folded: the two hands are combined, and the index finger, middle finger and ring finger are slightly scattered.
(5) show the palms together: the palms are facing up, and the palms are facing each other.
(6) Holding hands together: both hands are raised at the same time, and the ends of the fingers are slightly curved, like a bucket of water.
(7) Return to life and cross your hands: that is,' King Kong crossing your hands', which is also commonly called crossing your hands. That is, the palms are closed, the fingers are crossed, and the fingers of the right hand are above the left hand.
(8) cross your palms: the palms of your palms are closed, with your right hand above your left hand, your fingers twisted, and your fingers on your right hand above your left hand.
(9) Fold your hands behind your back: raise your right hand, cover your left hand, and fold your right hand on your left hand.
(1) Cross your fingers together: the two palms are facing each other, the middle fingers are facing each other, and the rest fingers are scattered.
(11) Fold your hands down and fold your palms together, with your middle fingers touching and your thumbs closing.
(12) Fold hands and palms together: two palms are folded, two thumbs are combined, and ten fingers are outward.
Strictly speaking, the exposed crossing and the crossed crossing in the twelve palms are not crossing. However, because the two palms are connected, it is also called crossing your palms. In addition, the most commonly used ones are crossing one's hands, crossing one's hands humbly and crossing one's hands without applying lotus.
