The origin of modern dance goes back to the end of the nineteenth century. Historically, the earliest modern dance should belong to the product of Romanticism. As a literary trend of Romanticism, he as long as it is against the literary dogma of the French 17th century classicism and the rise of the literary movement. From the 18th century, the emerging bourgeoisie began to grow in strength, and demanded a new type of literature and art to serve the bourgeoisie. By the 19th century, Romanticism had taken shape, and the idea of freeing oneself from the constraints of classical formalism, advocating innovation, and emphasizing the subjective feelings of the artist spread throughout the West. The founder of modern dance, Elydora Duncan, rose up against classical ballet. Duncan rose up against classical ballet, which was a manifestation of the spirit of romanticism in the field of dance.

Toward the end of the 19th century, classical ballet in Europe, due to the fixed pattern of ballet more and more deviated from the content of thought, the pursuit of form and technique. At that time, not only did dance innovators believe that classical ballet had become an obstacle to the development of dance, but also the innovators of ballet itself were equally convinced of the need for reform.

Once modern dance is mentioned, many people will shake their heads, either because they have not seen it, or because they think they do not understand it, and we need to recognize a new concept for modern dance in order to be better accepted and appreciated by the audience. First of all, modern dance should be regarded as a form of art, just relative to other forms of dance, it is more focused on the inner feelings of the dance artist, and through the body to fully show. Appreciation of modern dance should not emphasize on whether it can be fully understood, whether it is expressing a kind of theme or whether it can be educated or not, but should appreciate the beauty expressed through the body and the momentary spiritual feeling that it brings to you. Just like appreciating symphonic music and jazz, there is no such thing as understanding or not understanding, but whether the music itself brings you a sense of beauty and reverie, as well as a kind of instant feeling in the mind. Modern dance artists will not intentionally get some puzzling, obscure things, and is through modern dance this art form and other art varieties of different ways to convey the inner feelings and bring pleasure and beauty to the audience.

-From the perspective of creation

The rationality of modern dance art creation is people's observation, reasoning and understanding of the objective reality of life, that is to say, of the real life, but it is relative to perceptual, it is a kind of high-level stage of the understanding of life, it is the choreographer who, after thinking, analyzing, rationally discriminating, and taking the rough with the rough, and organizing and transforming, forming a concept, and then creating a concept, which can be used to create the concept of modern dance, and then to create a concept of modern dance. It is an advanced stage of understanding of life, in which the choreographer, after thinking, analyzing, and judging rationally, takes the essence out of the rough, from the surface to the inside, and organizes and transforms it to form concepts, judgments, and reasoning. Rationality is the leap of perceptual understanding, which reflects the whole thing, including the essence and internal connection, and also includes certain philosophical discernment and ideology. In the creation of modern dance, the ideology of the work is composed of the objective significance of the subject matter and the subjective thoughts of the choreographer. Among them, the choreographer's subjective thought is in the dominant position, which directly affects the direction of creation. However, as a dance choreographer, only rational thinking is still far from enough, it will let the dance choreographer's "vision" gradually become narrow, dim, therefore, it is necessary to choreographers have another kind of temperament that is blood.

Artistic creation is impulsive, passionate, is "not madness is not alive", is to make the idea of stretching, to go too far, that is, art is originally neurotic, this is a realm of art, support this realm is a special temperament in the netherworld - - blood. This is a realm of art, which is supported by a special temperament in the underworld - bloodiness. Blood is the artist in real life behavior and art in the creation of behavior reveals, reveals a real quality, blood is full of passion, impulse, imagination, inspiration and romance, it is relying on abstract intuition to "do things", because of this, so it is more need for rational constraints. Blood has two true emotions - sincerity and righteousness - but these two true emotions are also an expression of the artist's character. The quality of blood is a prerequisite for the sublimation of the "hero of thought", is the basis of the realm of the artist to create works of art, but also the surrounding "character environment" "emotional factors" and other aspects of the reasons for the manufacture, influence out of the natural "products It is also a natural "product" created and influenced by the surrounding "character environment", "emotional factors" and other reasons. Such as modern dance works, "Puppet", this work is full of blood, it is a high degree of thinking about life, a high degree of condensation, the form of a high degree of abstraction of the analogous depiction of a very clear example.

Second, from the aesthetic point of view

The most important thing in the performance of modern dance is "the soul and the inner expression of the body." Modern dance as a kind of emerging and a form of dance expression in China, his physical performance can also be said to be a wonderful physical art. The term "modern dance" does not describe a certain type of dance like classical ballet or Chinese Anhui Flower Drum Lantern, so some people only regard it as a synonym of "emerging dance", "pioneer dance", "avant-garde dance", and "modern dance" as a synonym of "new dance", "pioneer dance", "avant-garde dance", and so on. Therefore, some people only regard it as a synonym of "emerging dance", "pioneering dance", "avant-garde dance", in order to emphasize its "modernity". However, if we look at it solely from the concept of time, modern dance is not always "modern" nowadays, so its development has been nearly a century's history so far, as far as its pioneer Duncan's dance is concerned, people still call it "modern dance" in order to make its title more descriptive of modern dance, and also to emphasize its "modernity". In order to make it more descriptive of the qualities of modern dance, it is more appropriate to use the term "modernist dance" to call it.

Modernist dance is distinguished from traditional art forms by the special significance of its aesthetic concept. It began with a long history of opposition to the old sense of classical ballet, and then all the traditional concepts of dance and stereotypes, and even it also requires a departure from all the recognized principles of dance, and even make the dance into a form of non-dance artistic expression and the rare existence of the dance. The American modernist choreographer Helen Thommines in her performance manifesto. Tom Minnis in his performance manifesto has summarized the distinctiveness of this dance genre in this way: he said that there is no universal law of modernist dance, and that every artist creates his or her own code, as well as his or her own modern dance."

Modern dance since the "birth" of that moment, is to Europe and the United States as the main object of the two major birthplaces, Europe and the United States is one of the most adapted to the modern dance of the greenhouse, to the development of modern dance to provide sufficient conditions, is the development of modern dance can be very fast, to improve, until now, the development of modern dance has always been a global The development of modern dance has been a worldwide topic until now. Modern dance is getting closer and closer to people's life, but up to now, no matter which country's modern dance is, there is one thing that can be clearly seen, the survival, development and growth of modern dance of these nations and countries are ultimately in their own life, times and cultures, and they have found their own body art language and art expression. Modern dance always keeps its active and changeable character. In the past, modern dance and ballet were once in an incompatible situation, but now they can absorb each other, and many dancers are also proficient in both kinds of dance. Some critics believe that the style of modern dance will continue to change and develop in the future. As a literary phenomenon, modern dance has attracted the attention of Chinese dance circles in recent years, and the development of modern dance in China is getting faster and faster, and the research of modern dance is beginning, and in the hearts of Chinese people, more and more people are able to accept modern dance, appreciate modern dance, and enjoy the kind of wonderful feeling modern dance brings to people, so as to make people's spiritual life to a new improvement.
