What counts as dance?

According to the different performance forms of dance, it can be divided into single dance (solo dance), duet dance, trio dance, group dance, group dance, music and dance epic, dance drama (ballet), etc.; according to different styles of dance Characteristics can be divided into classical dance, folk dance, and modern dance; according to different methods of shaping dance images, it can be divided into lyrical dance, narrative dance, and dramatic dance.

Solo dance:

One of the dance styles. It means performing alone, so it can also be called "single dance". The solo dance can be a complete work, such as the men's solo dance "Hope", "Waves", "The Last Spring" and the women's solo dance "Sparrow of Lingsha", "Mulan Returns", etc. This type of solo dance is complete in content and becomes an independent work. A solo dance can also be the lead dancer in a dance drama or a dance work. For example, Odette in "Swan Lake" and Ying Niang in "Silk Road Flower Rain" all have solo dances to express their emotions. In terms of content, this kind of solo dance is often just a dance or dance drama fragment, and in terms of form, it is often accompanied by a group of dancers. This kind of solo dance sometimes does not mean being alone on the stage, but refers to a relatively complete performance of a certain character that is different from other actors (that is, it does not require neat movements). There is also a type of solo dance that refers to part of the "variation" of a ballet pas de deux, that is, after the duet dance, there are dance sections performed independently by men and women. This is mainly used to showcase the actor's superb turning and jumping skills.

Trois dance:

One of the dance styles. It is named because the work is performed by three dancers; but the dance part that is not performed by three dancers can be called "dance for three people". If three dancers perform in uniform motion throughout, it's just a small group dance. "Trois' dance" is mostly a small dance work with plot, which is the smallest dance style that can form a conflict of characters. For example, the three-person dance "Golden Seed" shows the conflict between the siblings and the bad elements who sabotage production; the three-person dance "Rope Wave" shows the situation where the couple is at odds and the children survive in the conflict. The dance segments and stage composition are designed based on personality conflicts. The movement of the trio's dance is mainly asymmetrical and contradictory, making it a unique dance style.

Group dance:

One of the dance styles. Generally refers to a multi-person dance performed by more than 3 people. From the gender of the performance, it can be divided into men's group dance, women's group dance and men's and women's large group dance; from the content composition, it can be divided into plot group dance and lyrical group dance. A group dance can be an independent dance work, such as "Stream, River, Sea", "Nalinda", etc. This type of group dance is mostly lyrical group dance, and the group dance can also be a fragment in a dance drama, such as "The Society of Little Knives" "Bow Dance" in "The Mermaid", "Coral Dance" in "The Fish Mermaid", etc. This type of group dance is subject to the shaping of the dance drama's character and the advancement of the plot, usually depicting the scene where the story takes place and expressing the mood of the crowd. An important performance feature of group dance is neat movements and consistent styles.

Group dance:

Usually refers to dance performed by the masses in urban squares, campuses and factories. It is different from the self-entertainment and collective folk dance of rural villagers on the occasion of the New Year; it is also different from the group dance performed by many people on the stage. As an urban mass dance, group dance has a strong sense of self-entertainment. The dance steps are generally relatively simple and the formation changes are not complicated.
