Stephon Marbury in the NBA then ...... Note that it's only about the NBA, don't mix in the CBA stuff.
Offense...
Below average unballistic offense due to very good first golfer.
Push back, or start blocking at half court, good enough.
Individual breaks create opportunities, and the offense is just as good at midcourt.
However, the ability to control the tempo is usually not a good skill for teammates.
Quite sticky on the ball. Passing skills are very good, but extra passes are not enough.
Shoots very fast and is full of attackers from mid-range.
Changes direction, shifts, ball-handling, all-around dribble-break ability, tops in the league.
Ability to terminate near the basket is very prevalent. But the ability to break through to the basket and make free throws is excellent.
Excellent one-on-one attacker and blocking specialist
Remotely inconsistent.
Defensive end ......
Very, very inconsistent.
When you're willing to play defense, solo matchups are very good, keeping your position very stable and basically not letting your opponent break through.
When you're not willing to defend ...... When there is no presence.
Eat the cover. There will be people missing when there is no ball to defend.
Generally:
Very good one-on-one point guard. Peaks well enough as a scorer and organizer. Good ball-handling ability but lacks ball-handling ability, average efficiency with ball-handling.
But as a teammate, there are nitpicks, from skill to mentality, during his time in the NBA.
If you talk about one-on-one skill sets that aren't Frazier, Monroe (who plays point guard), Archibald, the Big O, the Ancient One, but only the Ancient One, well, in Marbury's prime you could have gone with KJ, Beetle, Assassin, Paul, Owen, Baron, Ross and Wei Shaoye Going together. In fact, over the past decade, four guys have been classic "don't look at the not-so-big, single, intimidating accomplishments": Tinsley, Marbury, Alston, Marbury and his brother.
But the overall impact of the game as an overall point guard ...... that's another matter.
