Historical origin of firecrackers:
This custom has a history of more than 2,500 years in China. The Jing Chu chronicle once recorded that on the first day of the first month of the year, when the chicken crows the first time, everyone has to get up and set off firecrackers in their own yards to expel the plague gods and evil spirits.
There was no gunpowder or paper at that time, so people used fire to burn bamboo to make it burst and make noise to expel the plague gods. This is of course a superstition, but it reflects the good wishes of the ancient Chinese working people who longed for peace and prosperity.
By the Tang Dynasty, firecrackers were also known as "popping poles," presumably a longer bamboo pole burned section by section to make a continuous blasting sound. Nanchang poet to swan's "early spring" poem: "the new calendar will only half paper open, small pavilion is still gathered popping pole ash." This is written at the time of the Spring Festival burning bamboo poles.
Later, the alchemist after continuous chemical tests, found that saltpeter, sulfur and charcoal together can cause combustion and explosion, so the invention of gunpowder. Some people burned gunpowder in bamboo tubes, which made a louder sound, thus replacing the ancient custom of burning bamboo with fire. In the Northern Song Dynasty, the Chinese people have appeared with a roll of paper wrapped in gunpowder ignition, there is a difference between single and double ring, renamed "cannonballs", and later changed to "firecrackers".
