Nick, full name Nicholas de Longfang, the second book in the Anne Rice series of novels, The Vampire Chronicles. A character appearing in the second book, Lestat the Vampire. Lestat's first close friend and even lover. Lestat's countryman, the son of a wealthy cloth merchant in Auvergne, France. Brown, almost black, curly hair, brown eyes, about Lestat's age and above Lestat's stature. He was sent to Paris to study law. But in his first year at university he became obsessed with the violin and studied with Mozart. His father saw him as a disgrace to the family, and the violin was smashed and his father threatened to break his hands. He later buys a watch and a violin, but is determined not to return to Paris to study. Nick and Lester meet when Lester kills eight wolves and the merchants of the village bring gifts of wolf skins and cloaks to express their gratitude, and Nick follows his father. So the two men, both of whom have "defiled" their family's house in a way that is not acceptable to the common people, and who have the audacity to do so, come together. Lester and Nick spent their days drinking and talking about religion, values, beauty and eternity, and became more and more inseparable. Nick first painted Paris for Lester, depicting the splendor of the outside world. Finally one day in Lester's mother Cabrera support the two left home to Paris. Of course the fathers of the two families respectively declared to sever the father-son relationship. The two came to Paris, as if in a new world, although life is difficult, living in a dilapidated attic, only cheap wine and bread, but the two people feel very happy. Lester works as an odd-job man at the Renaud Theater, a small street theater, where Nick plays the violin and begs for money when he can't afford it. But that was just the beginning. Lester's chance came soon enough, and his first appearance on stage was a success, and he rose to fame. Nick, however, was in a position where he would never be able to play the violin again (Capri had asserted that Nick was too old to learn the violin and would never be able to achieve much). The relationship between the two men takes a subtle turn for the worse. It was at this time Magnus appeared and turned Lester into a vampire. Lester, believing that keeping Nick alive was the right thing to do, hid the truth from Nick and sent a large amount of possessions to Nick. Lester gave Nick a Stevalla violin, hoping that Nick would go to study under a famous Italian teacher, but Nick insisted on staying at the Reno Theater against Lester's wishes. He gradually discovers Lester's abnormality and unnaturalness. Lester's deception and love expressed in wealth overwhelmed Nick and created a kind of resentment of being deceived and betrayed. Later, Armand takes Nick captive in order to deal with Lester, who has gone rogue and does not conform to the Satanic vampire system. In the underground of the Cemetery of the Holy Innocents, Nick walks from the brink of death, sees the truth behind Lester's deception, and then is in a state of shock, rage, grief, and so many other emotions that he is as silent as the walking dead. After Lester dismantled the coven at Holy Infant Cemetery, he brought Nick to his tower, where Lester reluctantly turned Nick into a vampire at Nick's strong request. Once Nick was turned into a vampire he fell into a state of chaotic silence, not speaking, even frozen, his mind in a state of chaos. Until Lester played the Stradivarius violin in front of Nick. Nick's silence was transformed by the sound of the violin into an uncontrollable madness. He screamed at Lester, "I'll give you back your Vampire Theater". At Nick's insistence, Lester gives the Reno Theater to Nick, who changes the name of the theater to the Vampire Theater and forms a new coven with a few vampires who have escaped from the coven at the Cemetery of the Holy Child. Then Armand entered the picture. Lestat left Paris with horror and helplessness and a thirst for a new world and set out on a journey to find Maris. But Nick's madness of love and hate did not subside, it intensified. The Vampire Theater is an unprecedented success, but Nick's madness cannot be contained. In desperation, Armand cuts off Nick's hands, forcing him away from the violin. Nick's father's threats turn out to be true. But this suppression undoubtedly backfired, and finally one day Nick, in a tangle of madness, despair and pain, threw himself into the fire and died like a firework in the wind. .......... However, Nick's death undoubtedly wrote eternity in Lester's heart, and since then, Lester has never completely revealed his heart as he did to Nick at that time, and in the decades of living with Louis, Lester has never even mentioned his past. This was Nick the Vampire, a memory gone by.
