The group, Masked Dancers, was founded in 2003 and was originally created by a group of friends who wanted to showcase free style dancing. Hip-Hop was prevalent in those days, yet there were dance crews everywhere that had the same style, and the dances those dancers performed looked like they had been cloned. There was an imbalance between "dancing to the rhythm of the music" and "dancing as a form of artistic expression". That's why the Masked Dancer was born.
The Randy Jackson Present America's Best Dance Crew, created by "American Idol" judge Randy Jackson, concluded its first season of competition with the birth of America's best dance crew, which is JabbaWockee. It was JabbaWockeeZ.
JABBA was a seven-person crew in the early days, and one of them, Gary, died in a car accident, so by the time ABDC rolled around, there were only six of them. Most of their dances had a pointing to the sky at the beginning and end, which was in honor of their lost teammate. Their dances which are further divided into having 10, 7, 6, and 3 members. Each member has a different background in dance and life, which brings a diversity of styles and perspectives to the group as a whole.
The idea of the Masked Dancers came from three men, Joseph Larot, Kevin Brewer and Phil Tayag.
The entire team at the time included five other members who ****together created the particular style of Masked Dancer.
The five members were Randy Bernal, Ryan Ellis, Chris Gatdula, Gary Kendell, and Rainen Paguio.
And over the past five years, the number of Masked Dancers members has grown to eleven.
The four members added were Ben Chung, Eddie Gutierrez, Saso Jimenez and Phi Nguyen
